can't profile eric johnson fuzz face

Tried to profile an Eric Johnson Fuzz Face pedal with a vintage Marshall, the output from the Kemper has a different impedence or something than a guitar - when I set it up for profiling, the fuzz face would choke and was horrible at ANY volume and fuzz setting. Plugged a guitar into the fuzz face into the marshall, worked perfectly.

Is there anything we can put between the output of the Kemper for profiling that would change the impedence or whatever is causing the issue? I also think this would give us more accurate profiles as the output from the kemper for hooking up to the input on an amp being profiled is NOT the same as plugging a guitar directly in.

Hi Pete,

Not sure if this would work but I've used a Radial 'dragster' between my guitar and devices in the past to help with impedance issues. Inexpensive little thing that you can adjust to get back any lost 'warmth'. Not thought of using it in conjunction with the KPA until just then... just a random suggestion.

Btw, Looking forward to get some time this weekend to try your new profiles by the way - great stuff by the sounds of others' comments here. Cheers, Brett.

Yes, a reamper which changes the signal from low impedance to high impendance should do the job. If you cant borrow a dedicated reamper you can also try a passive Di Box in "Reverse Mode", which means you connect the KPA output to the DI output ot the Di Box and use the input if the DI BOX as an output which connect to your stomp box or amp. I used this a cheap reamper for years and it worked pretty nicely.

Thanks guys. I really want to try to get a good EJ fuzz profile with one of my vintage marshalls, it gets that violin tone pretty easily.

there are some pedals, maily fuzz pedals, that like to see a guitar pickup at their input. incoming line level let´s them do unexpected things.
In such cases I use a pickup simulation device I build by myself. Here´s how to do it - if you´re a little bit into soldering, it´s quite easy to do: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/in…p?topic=79611.0

Actually bought a box that will switch impedences, so I'm going to give it a shot. If not, may solder up one of those boxes. I've built custom tube amps and pedals before, that looked pretty easy and cool.

Update tomorrow, headed to a gig tonite!
