Won't boot up - freezes at startup screen

version 1.04 I haven't used the unit for a couple of days. Just switched it on and it won't boot up at all. Tried various boot up sequences with system button etc, nothing..... and it won't switch off either, have to cut the power at the mains. I then tried booting up with the usb stick in the socket and it booted ok, but it went straight to the initialisation screen and I had to reinput the date etc but then booted up ok. I don't suppose that the unit can't cope with 29th Feb ?????? surely couldn't be as silly as that ?

Update: Switched it off a couple of hours ago and just switched it back on and now it won't boot up at all either with usb stick in or not or by pressing system button. Damn this is unreliable, contact support I suppose :cursing:

If you have a backup of your rigs I would just make a clean installation (format flash, init flash and then install from USB). The procedure is the last one from Armin's list (boot to tuner holding <> keys pressed)

Will that work if his KPA won't even boot at all?

Followed Armins boot procedure and that seems to have worked. Really annoying though that this was working fine two days ago and all I did today was switch it on and I get all these problems. They have to fix all this crap, just isn't good enough really.

Unless is completely dead (no current, lights..) then it must
  • Switch the main knob to off
  • Hold the left/top soft-key above the LCD
  • while still holding this key - switch KPA to tuner
  • Maintenance Module will be started
  • In the 'Maintenance' menu goto 'Memory'
  • Use Memory FormatFlash and InitFlash
  • Check if the KPA works (booting, tuner)
  • Check all the KPA settings
If it doesn't start

  • Switch the main knob to off
  • Download the latest KPA firmware
  • Get an empty fat32 formated USB stick
  • Copy the unziped firmware file 'kaos.bin' to the root folder of the USB stick
  • Plug the USB stick into the KPA
  • Press and hold both '<' and '>' keys
  • while still holding both keys - switch KPA to tuner
  • Something like 'boooting and installing' will be displayed
  • Wait until the firmware is reinstalled

Jon, can you still contact them with what happened with your KPA.
This reliability issues have to be sorted out. I don't even want to imagine a live situation with something like this. :cursing:

P.s. we should get a sticky with Armin's fix... but then again, there's Davide - your 24h personal KPA service center :D :D
