    I feel GAS! 8o
Since my visit at Musikmesse at Gibson booth last year, my enthusiasm for this maker just died. To pricey with a lousy performance. But Tokai LPs seems an excellent alternative. I 'm happy with my Epi LP and I'm more for a TC de Luxe in the market. Got an alternative here, too?

  • Is a "TC" a Tele?

    Yep!
Drool - salivate 8o The one in the case is a beauty, indeed. Looking for a De Luxe version with splitable neck humbucker and some smooth bridge SC with twang and feel - you know ?!?! - might be an oxymoron here but what the heck....
My requirements sounds maybe more like custom made gear.
BTW, how is the neck on those Tokai Teles?
Looked up a Tokai shop near Munich but this one does not appear very alive... Before I order I have to play them, thats mandatory!
    Thanx for posting the porn!

  • I'll leave the photos up so you guys can continue to get your daily dose of guitar porn satisfaction.

But, you'll have to contact me via PM if you want a guitar, I won't start a new for sale thread here.

At the moment I can do killer special deals because the South African currency has practically collapsed against the Euro and USD...when I import guitars or Kempers into SA the weak currency kills me, but when I sell guitars for Euros or Dollars it works in my favour, and therefore in your favour.

  • I'm not in a position to do anything right now, Lance, due to other recent activity on the guitar front but I've a question for future reference.....

Import duty to the UK - would I be right in thinking I've got to add 20% VAT and also import duty at this end?

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question! If I buy from Europe, this doesn't happen. If I buy from the USA, it does. I've never bought from SA before :)

To be honest I'm not 100% sure about UK duties...I actually haven't sold to UK buyers because there's a Tokai distributor in the UK, so I encourage guys to contact the distributor or shops in the UK.

I know there's zero import duty into the USA.
I've sold here to guys in the USA, Greece, Holland, France, Canada, Mauritius, Germany (with the German distributors permission), and they didn't seem to have a problem with import duties.

  • Thanks Lance - I appreciate the reply and the fact that you've pointed me in the direction of a local buy. Very honourable of you :) Are you the same guy that used to be on the Line 6 forums many, many years ago? About the time of the Pod XT?

I digress - I just looked it up on the UK government site and unfortunately I'd have to add 20% VAT plus import duty which can add anything between zero and 49% again! When I bought a pickup from the States, that bit was 'only' 4%. But basically you can see why us lot don't buy much in this way! It's a shame as I love G&L guitars and they are another brand like Tokai in that '99% of them a keepers' IME. And they go for peanuts in the USA compared to buying them here :(

I've been on the Tokai UK website and it doesn't really scream 'buy from us'. When you look through the (huge range) of models, you have no indication as to which ones are made in China vs which are made in Japan. Then we have the prices which are more expensive than actual shops and eBay shops..... Then we have it saying 'Visit the dealer section to locate your nearest Tokai dealer' and there *is* no dealer section on the website.

Like I said earlier in the thread, I'm not in a position to buy at the moment so the fact that the UK website needs a bit of work is neither here nor there for me personally..... As well as the Kemper this year, I've bought monitor speakers and 3 guitars so I've been a naughty boy already! But I could certainly see a nice Les Paul in my future and I only ever hear good things about Tokai in terms of 'pay less than Gibson but get a better guitar'.

Anyway, good luck with these - they look lovely. Particularly like the LS160 on the first page! Must say I generally prefer a 'normal' burst as opposed to flames or quilts so that was the one that made me dribble more than the rest. Hope it finds a good home soon :)

  • You have a great memory regarding the old Line 6 forum, many many many years ago. :D
Oh boy, those were the good old days.
To this day I'm still in contact with many of those guys, in fact 'Schneidas' is a member here, he bought a Tokai as well.
I don't know if you remember 'Charger', he has his own forum now, I pop in occasionally to say hi to some of the old Line 6 boys that are members there.

Activate your Private Messaging and we'll discuss further.

  • Ahhh, the old Line 6 forum days... :D

Btw,I can't recommend Lance highly enough here!!
The LS100 I bought from him was stellar and so was his service. I also had no import duties...
If you're in the market for a Tokai, Lance is the best way you can go with guaranteed guitar-happiness! :)
