Hi guys.
Here's another one I just finished mixing (I think).
KARMA WITH KATHERINE is one of my favourite songs of ours.
A bit of Beatles between Rubber Soul and Revolver. And the Crowded House influence is inevitably obvious as well I think.
Intense gestures, intense emotions...
What else can I say?
Ah, concerning the little solo after the first chorus: we don't know if we should keep it or if it distracts from the 'doo doo doo'- part...
As always, constructive criticism is most welcome!

Very nice Ingolf I like it, the intro vocals are my fav. I take it they are just double tracked or did you use something else as well
Solo sounds good but I know what you mean about the distraction of the doo doo part. I think ditch the doo doo part and leave the solo in
Great sounding song anyway

Thanks Raoul!
Yeah, vocals in the 1st verse are double tracked, nothing else.
And I think you're right about the solo.
At the moment it's mixed in the backgroung which doesn't do it justice, and still it's a bit disturbing the vocals.
Let's see what we can do about it. -
Nice, like it very much Ingolf.
-
Love it!! I would try a different sound for the solo. A dirty fuzzy SG approach with more warmer mids to balance against the vocals. As it is right now both seem to sound similar in overall tone and eq. That's where the distraction is in my opinion. The ear is trying to take in two things that are too sonically similar at the same time.
Very Falkner'ish to me. Great song!

Hey Rob, thanks for that advice.
In that solo it's a LP over one of Andy's TAF Marshall Bluesbreaker profiles.
I'll try to fuzz it up in Logic first (I don't do re- amping) or play it again with a darker sound.
But in general you think it's ok for a little solo here!
I will use this as a strong argument with the boys.... -
Nice catchy song, like it
Why not play the melody of the doo doo part with some guitars?

I dont see why it couldnt fit if it had it's own space. Maybe try panning the vox slightly more to one side and the solo to the other to help the soundscape a little more. Try an Orange amp or a Cornford. The idea above of soloing the vox notes could be cool too. -
I did the solo again, it's now less distracting and fits better to the vocals,
plus a few tweaks here and there.

That sounds fantastic! Great job. All those elements flow nicely together. They compliment each other now.

Thank you! I think I'm near completing this now.
But I have another idea or two.... -

Thank you, mate! That's a compliment coming from someone from the motherland of the music we're into (Beatles, XTC, Costello, etc.).

Günter, many thanks!
And good to see you back!! -
Ingolf, I really like this song. The vocals are top notch and musically well done. For me the only thing is there seems to be something vocally missing on the chorus. I t seems it should be bigger sounding maybe just doubling the vocal would do it. But fabulous writing

Even bigger, you say?
Lets see what we can do... -

And good to see you back!!Thanks Ingo, I'm back after 27 shows and a lot of great after-show parties
Both guitar-players (Stephan Birkmeyer and myself) played everything with our KPA's.
