Looking for a backup for the Kemper.
Any experiences with the TECH 21 Fly Rig 5?

No.
My backup in all honesty is a Zoom MS-50G.
Would get me through any gig.
I've always liked the Tech 21 stuff. Used to use the Blond pedal before the KPA with my own other pedals. This looks great and it is surprisingly inexpensive.
Played a gig last week with another band and their guitarist used one....I was disappointed. Sounded thin...he's a top bl;oke so don't want to knock him and it was his first gig with it so might have just needed tweaking but...
IME Flyrig is a great unit, does what it promises .and can deliver pretty decent core sounds to any sound system if it's tweaked and used properly.Delay and reverb are great too.It can serves as backup but as main rig too, in some cases. I use a zoom CDR for additional post effects and an AMT wah in front of it, all in a very small DIY pedalboard, that even fits in the front pocket of my guitar bag.
Super portable and great sounding. It's worth to give it a try.
I have a Digitech GSP 1101 as my backup. I also have a small pedal board with a few effects and a E.H. 22 Calibre pedal amp, though it needs a speaker cab to run into. They work great in a pinch.
If i buy an Digitech GSP 1101 as backup, can i use my behringer floorboard with unoforkemper chip to control it??

Very likely yes, but in the end it depends on the midi implementation of the Digitech and how freely you can assign different functions of it to the limited amount of CC's that the UnO4K cand send.
Thanks for the reactions, still going for the fly rig as back up because its easy to use/carry!
I used to use a FR5 as a backup, but found the Fender side was kinda scratchy when you would overdrive it, plus the bottom end would fart out when I would really drive it, supposedly like a real Fender (which I don't recall ever happening in my years of playing though a silverface Bassman), but after I received some negative comments on that "feature" from my band-mates at rehearsal I looked for another solution.
The Plexi section was actually pretty good (especially with the boost) and provided a pretty fair emulation of Duane's sound at Fillmore East when I tweaked it a bit Also liked the delay, although it would overload a little too quickly. All that being said - if I had a fly gig and had absolutely nothing else available it would be acceptable.
Here's what it looked like:

Anyway, I now use it as a backup for my backup, which is the same PT Jr but with some Hotone pedals on it, the same Turbo Tuner and a EB VP Jr volume pedal driving a Quilter Tone Block 200. Sounds pretty good, has a good choice of effects, and gets plenty loud. All I need is the pedalboard and a cab. But it doesn't come close to my Kemper...
I use the flyrig RK5 as a backup... best sounding little thing!!! Try it, you will love it!
Just put it in your guitar case for backup and be happy....
Best regards, Mario
I have one of these. I am a big fan of Tech 21 products and the warmth they have. They record very nicely. I have a lot of their products.
However, they generally have two problems. Noise and headroom. I found the same thing with the Flyrig.
The cleans were generally very nice (although a little thin sounding) and the distortion was good. However, the unit is noisy. The boost and delay selection in particular. I also find that the unit starts to clip quite easily. Also there is no FX loop which is a major fail when you have a unit like this.
Don't get me wrong. In a pinch it is a great unit. I would recommend it despite the faults. It is a great tool for quickly getting a warm and analogue DI tone with lots of flexibility. But it does have limitations.
