Hello friends,
this all is quite an old idea. I`ve been using such a system for about 10 years. Had two Hughes & Kettner Cabs, pulled the Celestions out and put in a EVM12L and a very good Beyma Tweeter and also a very good crossover network. Played through solid state or tube Stereo Poweramps and the last years through a Boss GT10 with my Parker guitars.
This systems sounds very good, for clean or acoustic sounds just switch off the speaker sim in the GT 10 and you got a "hifi" clear sound, for heavy stuff switch it on again and you got a guitarcab response. This all worked very well for me and I was completely satisfied.
But here is the point: This system does not work well with the Kemper! I Tried a lot of tweaking and tried many rigs but the best I could get out of this was close to the GT10 level.
That was so disappointing that I stayed with my GT10 for playing with my band.
Then last week I bought a DXR10. Played an AC30 Rig with Kemper and the DXR10 and there it was: I Closed my eyes and the AC30 was just standing in front of me - what a great sound!!
So, putting it all together: I don`t think that this DIY solution will be the holy grail of sound. The Kemper and our ears are hard to please what speakers are used. Just think of the discussions about the DXR8, DXR10 and DXR12. All good speakers but as many of you mentioned only the DXR10 does the job with the Kemper. This all is just my point of view.
And thanks to Ingolf for the Kemper EQ settings - that was very helpful. -
Will the kit be appliable to others cabinets?
What is the exact speaker model? I'm asking it because I can't understand
if it is a double cone modelThank you
It is a twin cone / double cone speaker very similar to this one.
The kit will fit into this particular Palmer box only since the bass reflex panel and the overall cabinets volume is designed to work with that.
There will be another kit available soon which will enable you to transform a widely available cabinet into a 4x12" like FRFR cabinet.
Similar to this one :

Thanks to share your experience. I assume that it is not exactly the same thing thought. KPA-Solutions has the knowledge, the experience and the skills to produce an effective kit which will deliver the linearity that they are looking for. Making a good FRFR cab is more than putting a speaker, a tweeter and a crossover in a box. I think that the goal here is to produce something like their finished products (FRFR212, 112CX) at a lower cost. Maybe I'm wrong but I see it as a very good move if they achieve a FRFR cabinet thru to the source (as near as possible to studio monitors) that is very affordable.

I got to thinking... could I install this new product into my powered monitor, like the Laney CP12?!
-
No. This kit was measured and developed for the empty Palmer 112 only. What is the volume of your Laney? Is it a ported cab?
-
Yeah...it's your basic wedge type of monitor and I kinda was thinking of replacing the speaker in it. May be the tweeter too. Just a thought LOL .
-
Suppose that I use a cab of the exactly same volume and dimension than the Palmer 1x12 but with lighter wood (pine or else) will it work fine?
-
Maybe. If the resonance frequency of the cab and the tuning frequency of the vented port are the same.

You're right on the resonance frequency of the cab... It would still be a problem even if I use the vented port from the kit at the same position... Will not take this risk! So the Palmer is the way to go but I would really like a Neo speaker option!

Okay. I'm searching...
EDIT: Sorry. It seems there is no neodym 12" speaker, which goes up to 10 kHz flat and costs less than 600 dollars. (So how much more do you want to pay for 2 kg less? )

Ha, my bet yould be a Marshall 1960A.

Not sure what I did wrong last time, but thomann is now shipping to the U.S. again Almost made an impulse purchase, but decided I should do the math first: what will this conversion kit cost, roughly?

The Atomic CLR neo is about 12 lb lighter than the regular one just by swapping the ferrite speaker for a neo one. So why just 2 kg less in this case?
-
It's about only one speaker, not the whole cabinet. 12 lb are over 5 kg. The weight of a normal 12 inch speaker is 4-5 kg. The weight of a neodym 12 inch speaker is 2-3 kg. 4-2 (or 5-3) = 2.
