I was wondering if i could use the KPA as an FX unit before a regular tube amp ?
no ampsim or cabsim... just the FX unit like a regular pedalboard into an amp.
Direct out with stack section set off ?
any ideas ?
thanks,

Sure - you can do that, if you want to.
If the amp has an effects loop, you may even get better results like this:
Guitar connects to KPA
KPA FX SEND(locked in the X slot) to amplifier Input.
Amplifier FX SEND to KPA FX RETURN
KPA OUTPUT to Amplifier FX RETURN.
The above uses the KPA stomps before the amplifier, and puts the post FX in the amp's FX loop.

now that's what i wanted to hear !
thanks a lot !

Cool thing about this set up is that you can use the Kemper's AMP block to profile your favorite OD/Dist pedals (or combinations thereof.)

You're welcome
Also, it is very easy to program sounds using using your tube amp preamp OR a KPA preamp profile when you have things connected this way:
Using KPA rigs with the Amp/Cab blocks turned off:
When the KPA FX loop is programmed to be ON, you hear your tube amp's preamp.Using KPA Rigs with the Amp block turned On, and the Cab block turned Off (Or using Direct Amplifier profiles):
When the KPA FX Loop is programmed to be OFF, you can use a KPA profile with your tube poweramp. -
thanks,
i just want to use the KPA effects in front of an old Plexi, so no need to buy a multiFX unit like the M9 or similar.. -
Should work like a charm, I'd also Profile your amp so if she ever goes down during a gig you can use the Kemper's clone direct to FOH and get through the show. Be careful though, many great old amps sit at home collecting dust because of this

What Does " Locked in the X Slot" mean?

What Does " Locked in the X Slot" mean?
-
"Locked in the X Slot" means the Effect Loop is automatically inserted into the X slot - it would not be necessary to add it to each rig. If you prefer, you manually add it to each rig you would be using with your amp.
To lock the Loop in the X Slot:Activate the FX loop in the X slot of the Kemper.
With the FX Loop displayed on the Kemper's screen, press the "Lock" button.
