Testing the Kemper Green Scream vs Maxon

I wouldn't be bale to tell you which is which, but my order of preference is A by quite a margin followed by B and C

1st one maxon. the other 2 green scream.

The second boosted clip is significantly more compressed, and not in a pleasing way (IMO, obviously)

I believe the first one is just the amp profile no boost...

The other two samples have a boost and those are the ones he is asking us to identify

I'm saying Green Scream is the third. I always get a bit of annoying resonance somewhere in the 1-2k range, like if you had turned the tone all the way up and blended it in quietly, and I hear it pretty well in there.

The unboosted sounds the best to my ears. I don't hear much difference between the boosted clips. Certainly not enough to pick a favorite or to haul an extra pedal around for the boosted sound. Makes a good argument for an unboosted profile and add the boost later using the Kemper.

I don't know if I'd say a "big" difference, but if my choice was correct it's enough to make setting up the Green Scream a bit troublesome for me. To me, it feels like the low end disappears too easily, and that harsh pick attack I mentioned shows up way too early on the tone knob. (And yes, I know -2.5 is noon on the real pedal's Tone knob)

Or maybe my guitar (mahogany with an Invader in the bridge) just happens to bring out that frequency, who knows.

2 and 3 are very close. I pick 2 as the Maxon. If I were comparing the sound on my Kemper and guitar, it would be easier to choose I think.

i changed my mind after listening to the second half of each clip several times. Definitely don't need the extra pedal to a gig though.

Hm, thats actually the exact order I had in mind. The Kemper green scream takes some definition away. If you listen closely the od808x sample still has those little thumps between each hit which makes the notes more definined while the green scream just levels that completely and it just becomes a bit of a mush.

Thanks for posting this man. Maybe Kemper will work on their green scream to polish it completely?

This was exactly what I was thinking re. the actual sounds- I have never played with the green scream, but in that clip above it just seemed flat and lifeless...

Please tell me to what position the tone control of the Maxon and the Green Scream was set.
Be aware that the first half of the tone control of the Green Scream reflects the full range of the analog pendant.
This behavior will be fixed in a future firmware.

Hannes, the missing low end deadpan mentions would do exactly what you describe.

comparisons really have to be reamped to be meaningful IMO.

Yeah I guess you´re right, thanks for pointing that out! I´m gonna get myself an OD808 in the next month anyway then I can give it a proper try for myself

I think I would have turned the drive down a bit on the Green ...but that's just me.
