Wishbone Ash and the Kemper

I hung out with Wishbone Ash on Saturday morning whilst they're on tour in South Africa.

I spent quite a while chatting to Andy Powell about his Kemper.
They used it to record their entire new album, Blue Horizon...he said it was brilliant in the studio but he hasn't explored using it live just yet.
He asked me lots of questions about using the Kemper live, he likes the sound of an amp behind him so I suggested a poweramp and cab.
I'm pretty sure by the time they tour Germany at the beginning of 2016 he'll be using it live.

They did a killer Questions and Answers gig Saturday morning in a music store...pics below....as you can see I managed to sneak the Kemper into the setup and I posed a Kemper question to Andy during the live video being made of the tour...I'll be sure to get it when it releases.

Andy plays his custom made Flying V almost always (not a Gibson) , his favourite guitar.

Went to the show last night.

Do yourselves a favour, if Wishbone Ash EVER pass through your country/city make sure you check out the show.
I've watched all the super groups in SA, including Queen (when Freddy still graced this planet), Slash and Kings of Chaos, Bon Jovi, U2, etc, etc.

The performance by Andy Powell and Muddy Manninen was described by a friend I was with at the show who himself is a legend SA guitarist, I can't describe it better than he did...he said, "a Masterclass in 'Ensemble' playing, for guitar players, it is an exercise in Tone, Space, Note choice, Melodicism. They also have Muddy, who I consider the best slide player that I have heard, bar none-
He is extraordinary!!!!"

I'll say this, Muddy Maninnen is the best guitarist I've ever seen live.
