  • I like the most recent amp sets - the Vendras and M/Bs - I find lots of useful tones with both single coils and humbuckers. Those "Vendra" profiles are nice with clean single coil tones but they work pretty well for more distorted rock tones with LP/ humbuckers at higher input levels.

I wondered what the drivers in the Twin were? Are they Jensens, JBLs? And what era is the amp? In the early to mid 70s silverface twins were everywhere and singing lead tones were possible with overdrives etc. As I recall, Santana played a LP standard into a Twin around the Caravanserai era before he went with the Boogie (hotrodded fender princeton initially), and Jeff Beck played a twin on Blow by Blow.

  • @Antipodes
Exactly, you could use some hotter pickups to get more crunchier sounds out of it. But real overdrive is only possible with stompboxes (real or of the Kemper) and this works very well too as @Sharry mentioned. And yes there are Jensen speakers inside.

We also used four really hi quality and expensive mics like Sennheiser MD441, Royer Ribbon 121, Neumann U47 Fet, and Reslo Ribbon ( from the 60's)

  • So I took the plunge of course. I always feel a little wanting with every Mark IV or Mark V I buy, and I have a lot - I think pretty much EVERY one available. It's my favorite amp, and I generally find profile sets don't do it justice.

So what's the verdict here...there's some great tones here, and with some tweaking I think I found maybe my favorite Mark V profile yet...but I still don't feel fully satisfied. What's good here is the soul of the amp is really captured. You can totally tell you are playing a Mark V. Some other seller's profiles use settings that make the amp sound generic or have way too many profiles that use boost pedals rather than the onboard EQ to dial in the amp - that makes it sound more generic, like numerous other boosted high gain amps.

So what didn't I like? There were no tight, djenty profiles out the box. The bass breaks up, and the upper mids are more crunchy than djenty. If you look at the definition parameter, most of them are around 5, whereas the sound I'd be looking for is more around 8-9. No biggie, just up the definition and add some pre-EQ and the sound is absolutely there. I can be a little wary of making big tweaks because sometimes it sounds like you end up somewhere completely new, rather than having the same amp with different settings. But in this case it works great.

The other thing is the final EQ is a bit off for my tastes. I found myself adding midrange and lowering presence a touch. They are quite scooped sounding as is.

Anyway, great pack - no remorse here. But the hunt continues...

  • That's interesting we had a lot of tight bass in the studio (and never broke up as you mentioned) and we're totally blown away by this little monster. If have to say that we never used some Djent or 7 strings (or even lower guitars). That's definitely not our thing!
But Guitar Master MARCO SFOGLI (James LaBrie, Virgil Donati) was absolutely happy that we catched exactly his favorite sound (he shared his personal settings with me).
I usually don't tweak the amp parameters like definition or the final EQ, I don't even look at them, hehe. So if it sounds great to my ears we start profiling it.
But of course it's all matter of taste. And it's always like real amps: you like and you feel comfortable with it or not!

    THX for your review! ;)

  • Those folks who've had issues receiving the DL links:

I wonder if you somehow missed them - they're on two "receipt" pages from what I can tell:

    1) The "Checkout" page that says "Thank you. Your order has been received". The links appear in small print below the individual packs' names.

    2) The "Thank you for your order" page which follows the previously-mentioned one; it says that it's "now being processed". On this page the links appear in smaller print, but not as small as on the previous one, and they're underlined this time.

Just thought I'd mention this in case these links simply weren't seen.

  • Monkey_Man, as usual, is right. I read right over the small print for my last pack and missed it the first time. Perhaps Guido you could have the font size increased for the download links.

    Just a thought.

    Cheers all!

  • @Monkey_Man

Could you send me the two screenshots you mentioned? Would be great! I have the feeling that some people are getting the mails in different sizes. THX! ;)

  • I can't find an email address on the site, Guido - I don't do socialist media, as you know, so Twittstar, FaceLook and whatnot aren't an option for me (all blocked for the Monkster!).

I also can't host pictures (my avatar is a one-off freebie) so I can't post them in this thread.

I could try a PM - maybe that will allow me to upload them... hang on...

OK, just tried PM. Won't accept jpg. Tried an RTF text document but it "reformats" it all to the same font and size.

Best bet is you provide me with an email address so I can send them as attachments, Guido.

  • (btw Monkey_Man - do you have a real name? I know you have no pics, social media presence... I'm just hoping your folks thought to name you :D ).

Just kidding, no offense meant at all...

    Cheers mate!
