I am trying to perform my first profile using the kpa via direct without mic-ing. I have plugged it in exactly as it shows in the diagram on page 14 of the Deeper View reference manual. Still getting the error message after several attempts...any ideas?

If the Return Level turned up?
Set “Return level” (soft knob 4) so that the level of the reference amp roughly equals the level of the internal sound of the Profiler. You can check level differences by switching back and forth between the current Rig and your reference amp. If the OUTPUT LED turns red when you play your reference amplifier, the level is too hot. You might notice audio clicks when you turn the “Return level”; this is the analog RETURN INPUT stage switching the level in the analog domain, to ensure the best signal-to-noise ratio. This feature allows you to capture any signal level, from the softest microphone to the hottest studio level output. Don’t worry too much about achieving a perfect volume match; during the profiling procedure the “Return Level” will be fine-tuned automatically to match the unity level of the Profile.
Did you also download the "Profiling Guide" manual? It has an " even deeper view" of Profiling

With the KPA in Profiler Mode, look at the display - it should be soft knob #4.

Thanks! So far this forum has been the most helpful of resources...I learn most effectively when i am shown how things works in person, wish there was like a workshop in town i could sign up for. I did manage to get some pretty cool profiles of my old triple rectifier that my friend bought from me several years ago.
