Broke my collarbone yesterday - no Kemper for 8 weeks

  • Sorry to hear about your accident. But I think with a fixed position for your left arm you should be able to to quite a bit of playing with your left hand.

I thing Ingolf is right (once again...)
... or it's time to study Stanley Jordan's tecnique: your right hand tapping could be enough... ;)

    Seriously, get well soon!!!

  • So sorry to hear that. Did you get surgery?

It it happened to me in June of 2013. I am a runner and stumbled over the uneven and crazy deformed sidewalks in LA. Broke it left up high, walked home 4 miles and drove myself to the urgent care. I was supposed to have surgery but my deductible (USA) was 4500 which was what the surgery cost...plus I'd have a titanium plate etc...so I didn't have the money and I also needed to go on tour 2 weeks later. I rested for 10 days straight in bed, the sling actually hurt more than just laying in bed and I went on a 2 mon tour. It was rough but I managed....

id say get a second opinion, avoid surgery as it has a lot of issues and begin with workout and playing early. You don't want to get stiff or lose muscle.

I wrote a blog about my Experience and more...

  • hi TheLightspeeder

no surgery at this point in time
surgery with a plate/screws inbedded was discussed but the orthopedic surgeon agreed that for the type of break i have i will probably heal ok and not need surgery. recovery time is about the same.

i have had frozen shoulders in the past (my right shoulder is getting cortisone injections at present) so i know i have to keep my joints moving.
i take the left arm out of the sling every 2-3 hours to move the elbow joint and exercise my muscles
i just recently had surgery on my feet so im feeling like "born under a bad sign" at the moment.....

btw - we have a publicly funded medicare system in Australia (like the UK NHS) so the emergency treatment, xrays, specialists etc plus any additional treatment at the hospital over the next weeks is all free of cost. Got to love "socialist" medicine. lol
    thanks for your kind words
    cheers

  • Vibrato might kill 'though...

    Goshdang!

Between all the poisonous snakes and poisonous spiders and killer jellyfish and all the sharks and now the crazy birds as well and the godknowswhatelsethatIdontknowaboutyets, I don't understand how there are any humans left down under anymore... :S

    Ha!

Yeah, I've been shocked by an electric ray (4-500v), poisoned by a marine catfish (2 days' recovery), poisoned by a bush melon (fully emptied gut & passed blood only for 3-4 days - they kill animals and send horses blind), bitten by a Red-lipped Herald in Africa (3 days' recovery), and bitten by any number of snakes, chameleons, fish and lizards as I used to catch, keep and breed anything I could get my hands on.

You get used to it, but I can tell you that some things still freak me out, like some spiders...

Right, surgery usually only becomes necessary If the fracture is dislocated.
And free access to public healthcare is a great achievement, not socialist at all, LOL. ;)
