Can't hide the grin I now have a Kemper that sounds like it was meant to.

After 18 months of ownership and a lot of frustration I finally have what everyone is hearing from their Kemper.

I'd tried everything I could think of and was looking at other gear in my chain, guitars, cables you name it I tried it,

I could kick myself now as the first rule of diagnosing any 'computer' is return to factory state. The most obvious thing and I didn't do it. Anyway did the soft button 1 reset on boot and Jeez the difference. My single coiled gtrs which were always the biggest problem/disappointment actually sing, not the brittle sounding tone which would sound like it was split in two with some digital artifact beneath the main note. Each note is now a 'unit' and I can now hear the subtle and not so subtle difference between the amps profiled.

I can play hard on chords and it "feels" like I'm playing through an amp without the middle frequencies masking the top and bottom, its sheer joy - I could cry at the relief

I don't know what was futz in the original system state and frankly now I don't care I'm just happy that my issue is finally sorted.

in the Rack unit its the 1st of the 4 buttons above the LCD. see below for the reset specifics

ISSUE: Kemper slow...very slow

Just have in mind it wipes all your content, performances and settings so not to be done lightly, make sure you back up beforehand

Just got done going through all my commercial packs with Strat 1 - knackered but in the best way.

Now will it be Tele, LP or Hollow body tomorrow, decisions decisions

@ Andy - went back to your Evil Robot pack seeing as I had the Strat plugged in - now I know what all the fuss was about

I can relate to your patience - 5 years to get an EMU sampler to stop crashing, 7 years for a properly-working variax, 5 years for a Mac that didn't freeze when I hit record (this one cost $3000 in RAM, then 3 Macs, 39 OS reinstallations... and it turned out to be a faulty PCI card), and so on. Oh, and the clincher was a period during the '90s when, and I kid you not, 26 products I bought in a row either failed in the first few hours or were DOA. I stopped counting at 26, but the torture went on a little after that. This seriously did my head in and I was ready to leave music forever; no reward I could imagine seemed, in my mind at least, sufficient to justify the suffering, especially on a pathetic budget, that I had to endure... but guess what? I'm here, and so are you!

At the risk of stating the obvious, it sounds as if the OS had become corrupted somehow.

Christophe, he said that he was experiencing a:

Well, I have suspected that certain global parameters such as global equalizers were changed by a previous user or in a music store, making the unit sound weird and bad.

Now you have reset those.

Well, Duncan, there you have it: 18 months and you didn't check the global paramters, such as global EQs and now that you initilised the flash, that's fixed. You should have had a look at the global settings before.

Sorry, but I don't buy that theory.

The doubling of the high note with a phase sound doesn't lend itself to an eq issue either.
