Emulating The Tone of Garcia Project
Phase 1

The goal of this project is to profile various rigs specifically aimed at emulating the tone of the late Jerry Garcia. Today's kickoff features two profiles of a quintessential Garcia rig:

Macintosh 50 Power Amp > Sarno Music Solutions SMS Classic (modified Fender Twin Head) > Custom 2x12 Hardtrucker Mimic cabinet with 2 JBL K120s.
Two profiles have been uploaded to the rig exchange:

• JGarcia Rig 01102515: slight bit of gain/breakup
• JGarcia Rig 02102515: clean & crisp

The guitar used for profiling was a custom Carvin DC400 'Wolf' with OBEL (On Board Effects Loop) and Waldo Buffer TPC-1. http://www.wald-electronics.com/

Fixed a couple of typos in my original post - 2 JBLs and removed the extra link to Mike Waldo's site. (note: he was not the donor for this session although he said he might be open to it if I can make it out his way.)

Note: The band by the name of 'The Garcia Project' has asked me to change the name of this thread and project so as not to infringe on their work. Hopefully the new name reflects the purpose without any further concerns.

I have my doubts about the veracity of a conceptual, not-for-profit project/thread being an actual legitimate legal conflict, but I get it - and I don't have a problem with changing the name. These days, supporting a live band in any way possible is ok by me.

FYI, I stumbled upon a possible issue with the second profile - it may be in both. See this post here:

but the quick fix I found is to go into the Amp section and give the profile just a touch of compression. (although as long as you are in there, you may as well play with other paramaters - I set up a Performance, copy pasted the profile into each slot and then tweaked it a bunch of different ways to see what I could get. YMMV

You're welcome. I've a lot of friends with killer Garcia rigs whom I hope to profile someday but for now, sadly, its on hold.

Thanks man! I am really happy folks are enjoying them - I have started playing lead a lot more recently and will have to put them back into rotation. IMeanwhile, hope to get back on this project sometime but life sort of interfered. I have a lot of good contacts who have state-of-the art Garcia rigs who said I could profile them - if I can get to them. They are all over the U.S. Hopefully within the next year or two!
