Palmer Macht 402 specialized guitar power amp

  • I was looking for some information, reviews and stuff regarding the Palmer Macht 402 specialized guitar power amp... but whereever i look it's always the same: the release-date has been rescheduled (again and again)
am i the only one who already ownes this amp? if so, I feel as if I should post a review, especially regarding the symbiosis with the kemper rack...
as far as i can tell after a couple of weeks i am pretty happy with my decision and i will write it down asap...
just let me know whether this would be of interest... ;)

  • Hi

I´m still waiting and interested in the palmer macht amp for my kemper. A short (or long) review about your experiences would be great for my further decisions. :)

PS: After a short contact with the Palmer guys a few days ago, they told my that the release (in germany ?) will be at Nov. 30th. Thomann is still giving a date "next week", followed by countless delays... I´m still wondering how you managed it to get a device ?!

  • yeah, that's exactly the question arising to me... i should check my serial number ;) maybe i'll be rich some day... i'll see how much time i can gain to shoot a little video or at least some photos and write down some of my experience...
just to offer my humble conclusion: it's a good bang for the buck!

  • If it's usable, I’m considering buying 2-3 for my studio, Luckily, I have a dealer account, so the price is really reasonable. Waiting for kzngr's comment.
Palmer page: available after November 23rd.

Can you tell me what kind of speaker you are using with the palmer - FRFR or a standard guitar cabinet ? Have you ever tried both in comparison ? Thanx in advance for your respond ! ;)

  • I am currently thinking about getting one of those. A little review would be really nice. And of course it would be really interesting to know what kind of speaker/Cab/Box you are using.

If you have the option to compare it against an active Fullrange solution, that would be even better :)

I am totally unsure which way to go.

  • Hi. I have already ordered the machy 402 to thomann and i'm fighting against the hours to have it finally in my hands.
If any of uou has it already any review would breally appreciated . Expecially:
    - can it play at home volumes?
    - is it transparent enough not to color the kemper sound?
    thanks

  • hey there. due to my job i did not find time to do an in-depth review and presentation yet. but just to answer a few of your questions: i usually connect the kpa via xlr to the PA (yamaha) at rehearsals which sounds awesome, but also tried out how it works via the power amp (to the PA), also connected it to my engl 212 v30 cab and i just figured out to connect two of my pretty old "the box cl106" ("fullrange")speakers via speak-on for practicing at home (absolutely possible at lowest levels for not disturbing the neighbours) AND just tried to use them as additional monitors live and at rehearsals, so i am able to set up a stereo monitoring on both sides of my midi-switch or even place one of them at my micstand and one of them back at the drummers place because i like to go back there during parts i do not sing ;) no matter which setup i use, i am always satisfied with the results. after playing a few gigs and rehearsing a lot with the new gear i have nothing to complain about...there are good alternatives for sure but as i mentioned before: for me it's the best bang for the buck.
by the way: i got mine on sep, 22

  • Mission completed !

I finally got mine a few days ago. I use the amp in bridged mode with a marshall 4x12 V30 and it sounds very good - even on very low volumes in my privat room. I can compare this sound to a FRFR aktive box (Dynacord AXM 12A), which I often use on small to medium stages for my own guitar monitoring. The sound or better the differences are depending on the amp+box rig you are using. If you use a rig with a 4x12 box in simulation over a FRFR it sound similiar with the palmer but with a bunch of more power (bass and pressure) - that was predictable. If you have a rig with a smaller box, the palmer does his job and the result depends on your connected speaker. That means, a 4x12 will never can simulate a 1x12 or a FRFR-sound if this is the target of your rig. Also predictable.
During the rehearsals the Palmer also did a great job. Good power with all advantages and disadvantages of the 4x12. All in all, like a standard rig with some advantages in terms of effects and variety. I tried the Kemper with the FX return of my ENGL SE too, but the Palmer sounds much much better.
So my conclusion: If you want to hold on a standard guitar equipment - choose the palmer with a guitar box, and carry the weight ;) . If you wanna try something new - take a FRFR and you´ll hear something new - especially clean sounds are very good. Or you have the opportunity not to make a final decision, like me, and do both 8) Whenever and wherever you want !

  • Hi, i found old topic about Palmer Macht402

I just ordered one after found good sale, i´m using KPA mostly with audiointerface + monitors from main out and i was thinking to connect Palmer amp to KPAs monitor out and use it with guitar cab

BUT it seems that Palmer has only BALANCED XLR or 1/4" TRS inputs and KPA monitor out is UNBALANCED 1/4"TS

Can i use monitor out to connect Palmer or do i have to use Main out 1/4" TRSs parallel with audiointerface

and which kind cable i should use?

  • You can use an unbalanced 1/4" TS cable.

Running my Kemper monitor out from back of the stage to my powered monitor at the front of the stage gives me zero problems (5-6m cable).

  • Ok, good to know

Im not concerned with noise or signal quality with unbalanced but more like if i connect TS plug to Palmer instead of TRS doesnt it short circuit second signal?

Asking like can device with balanced input be feeded with unbalanced signal, does it work properly?
