Is there a way that one could install a lean Rig so as the only rigs installed are the ones used in performances?

There is not a "one step" way to do it.
But, If you already have your Performances populated, you could:
1) Use Rig Manager to remove all of the Browse Pool rigs.
2) Go to each Performance Slot, and export the rig to the Browse Pool.

You don't need to have any rigs installed if you have everything programmed as performances, they are stand alone. It can be useful to have your sounds / profiles in the browse pool just in case you delete a performance by mistake though.

The RIG Pool in browser mode has it own memory.
To run a performance you need no Rig in the Pool
You can transfer a Rig to a performance and tweak, But this Profile and Performance will be stored in another memory.
You can save the tweaked RIG of a performance in the Pool with the function "store to pool" (RIG-Menue)
