Even if it is no longer going to be updated, It will always work as well as it does now - and the capabilities will always be far greater than any state of the art studio in the 1990s or before.
If you do want to change platforms, it is easy enough to export the audio and midi tracks out of a Sonar project, and then import them into something else.
But, I think there really isn’t a compelling reason to keep a DAW up to date, considering they are already more powerful than. Most users need them to be.
I switched from Sonar to ProTools several years ago, and still use the same outdated version of ProTools that I got back then, with no problems

There can be reasons - if you use your recording computer for other stuff that may require an OS upgrade - or if you want a plugin that is not compatible with older versions for whatever reason.
It’s true that newer Plugins will will eventually not be compatible - but, that’s a great way to stop shopping for plugins
I switched to Presonus Studio One years ago when I bought one of their interfaces and I'm much happier. The Pro version was much cheaper than it is now when I bought it, but it's been rock solid and easy to use. I've upgraded it twice and now on Win 10.
I not in hurry to move to another DAW but I have to find out how I get all installation files in case I have to reinstall it. They moved last year the installation process to an online installer software. So what if the servers are no longer available.....
Try Reaper. It’s $60! And competes with all the other high end DAWs. You can download for free and try out as long as you like. Very user friendly. Protools 11 is glitchy now and I can’t afford $300 per year so I switched. Still learning, but so far so good. Dozens of training videos on their website.
Xome good points here:

Thanks all for good advice.
The last years I never looked at others DAW. Today I downloaded the test version of Studio One 3.5
and I am deeply impressed.
