I am sending stereo XLR outputs to front of house live, but members of the band also want the XLR output too for monitoring. What is a reliable way to split the signal? A friend of mine says that just using a y lead will lower the quality of the sound. Ideally some kind of rack mount splitter would be good with inputs on one side and outputs on the other.

Until it is active even the rack stuff is nothing more than a Y wiring.

Can you not send XLRs to FOH and the two 1/4" jacks to the monitor desk?

Of course you can split signals.

I use the jacks for my own monitor mix. I have a Flying Calf d/a. Is spdif active at the same time as other outputs?
