Not sure if I have a mic cable that long.
The
Ength of mic cables doesn’t matter. One of the great things about XLR connectors is they have a male and a female end so you can jon the, together if you need more length.

Take em' down for the session!
Taking them down would be a little tough
Go for it where it sits at now. You can always move it and try again if you feel it effected the outcome.

I think it's a good idea to record in a different room. Right now, if I sneeze, they ring out
thegman I have asked Burkhard to confirm this before but don't think I ever got a definitive answer. If I understand it correctly, the profiling process doesn't capture any time based information (including the reverberation of the room and anything in it). As the mic is generally so close to the speaker, and directional, the impact of any guitars in the room is likely to be minimal at most. I could be wrong on this though and I would agree it is best practice to profile away from any sympathetic vibrations near the amp but where that isn't possible adopt the Nike strategy - just do it!

You are not wrong on this.
I profiled a combo amp with a U87 about a foot away and there isn‘t any trace of the room sound in the resulting profile.
In the other hand, I am pretty sure that when close-micing an amp with a 57 the profiling process will not be influenced by ringing guitar strings from the wall, because a) the 57 will not pick them up and b) the KPA is not „listening“ to these.
Put a wash cloth or piece of foam to dampen the strings of other guitars but honestly, an sm57 right up on a speaker will not hear those other guitars. A condenser mic might but dynamic mics aren’t very sensitive which is why they work well in untreated rooms and up close on cranked amps.
