Hi guys, I need some help find a way to create a specific sound.

I was depping on bass the other night for a band that I am going to start palying guitar with shortly. The current guitarist uses an AX8 into a Mesa power amp. It was a glorious sound (although to be fair he is such a good player he could make an AM radio sound good).

One of the songs we did was I Want To Break Free by Queen. He used a Synth effect in the AX8 to get a pretty convincing impression of the keyboard solo.

Any ideas how to get something similar using the KPA FX?

The solo in the middle of the song? Try combiningTouch Wah (for the attack) with Pitch Shift and a Distortion or fuzz Stomp.

    Thanks Paul.

How would you go about it?

I was thinking Wah Vowel or Wah Formant rather than traditional Wah. What do you think?

As for pitch shift; are you thinking just an octave or something else.

My KPA is packed up for this weekend’s gigs at the moment -

I agree that Vowel or Formant wahs are a good choice. Yes, Pitch shifting up one octave will not only get you in the range of those notes, but it will also add a synthy quality to the notes. If the pitch shift sounds too perfect and smooth, You can change the harmonic character by adding a gain Stomp (Shaper, fuzz,or Distortion) before or after the pitch effect.

I actually play this with my band, as the only guitarist - here's a vid of the verses -

I use a performance slot for each part - will try and upload them to rig manager tomorrow, or just let me know your email and I'll send them over.

Being an "official" piano player, I would be very interested in this too.

Thanks a lot in advance for sharing.

No worries, will get on it tomorrow!

Found a different vid, including the solo -

I've updated it since then, but should give you an idea of how the solo sounds!

Excellent. That’s close enough for jazz in my book :)

Wow, great video, love the tone of the solo! I'd definitely be interested in that too. My band also plays "From Out of Nowhere" by Faith No More and I do the keyboards part for that on guitar, but never been quite happy with the tone I'm using. Any suggestions appreciated!

    Thanks FarleyUK .

    I’ll download that shortly.

It’s not possible to upload FX presets to RE on theor own but it should work by just embedding them in a “surogate” amp and up

    Oading the whole rig.

So, er...... I've just realised in the vid above, I'm actually using my old AX8!!!

However, the sounds are a lot better with the Kemper - the patches should be in that Dropbox link above.

    D'oh!

I got a chance to play with it last night. SOunds great. Thanks again for sharing.

One thing I would say though is that the full rigs that you shared include a TAF AC30 profile but it doesn't appear to be a free one. It is generally best to share things like FX presets using only your own or free profiles rather than commercial ones. Can you tell me which TAF pack the profile came from so I can buy it and easy my guilty conscience.:S

Oops, sorry chaps - have now removed the profile! That's the danger of having loads of free and commercial profiles on Rig manager when you don't organise them accordingly.... Very sorry about that.

I'm not sure how to upload just the FX, but I'll take a look when I can.

Will send a link to the pack from TAF, but any AC30 profile should do.

You can just save the FX presets with a different Amp/Cab in the Stack section. Any free profile will work.
