Direct Amp Profiles and VOLUME

  • Hi All,

I've been doing Direct Amp profiles and comparing them to the actual amp through the same cabinet.

Here is the key, when playing back from the Powerhead they need to be at a similar volume as the actual amp when profiled to get an accurate representation.

You can still use them at lower volume but generally you will need to raise the lows and highs to get a similar experience.

Believe it or not, some capture methods are better than others, even for DA profiles.

Thaose issues are typically the sesult of how our ears work rather than the profiles themselves.

Volume - our ears trick us into thinking that louder is better so for a like for like comparison you need to match the volumes exacly. Even a small difference can be perceived as a difference in sound/tone.

Lows and Highs - our ears are much more sensitive to mids than eitehr lows or highs. That’s why so many bedroom players use an extreme V on the GEQ of their valve amps. It’s the effect of Equal Loudness Curves (most often referred to as Fletcher Munsen).
