“Cut” : too much cut adds mids. Is there a standard eq compensation you use to remove those mids?

  • When using “cut” found in EQ stomps (studio eq/etc.) it begins to get midrangy when cutting too much.

Does anyone have a standard go-to eq compensation when high “cut” values begin to affect tone(eq)?

Or would you just end up raising the highs again and ultimately defeating the purpose?

    Thanx

  • Are you just tryng to remove some of the very high end?

I would use the Studio Eq. Set a band (High) to a significant boost ( say 6 - 10db) and a narrow Q (higher number) then sweep the frequency center until you hear the frequency you don’t like and want to remove. Then bring down the gain to an appropriate level. This will give you a surgical cut of only a very narrow frequency range. In order to broaden the range of frequencies being cut widen the Q ( lower the number) at some point you will probably notice that it starts to reduce other frequencies that you want to keep. Just back it off again until you reach a happy balance.
