Hi,
when I connect the power cable to my profiler stage unit it always powers on automatically . Feels weird that it starts up without me having pressed the power on-button.
Is it supposed to do this?

I guess it's meant to minimize reboot time after a powercut.

The idea is to let the device 'remember' it's power-on state (i.e.: switched on/off) in memory, such that when the mains is connected that state is recalled. This will be in a future firmware update. For now: at least in 7.07 the device remembers it's mode (rig or perform) already.
