I have used the PE with several modelers (Pod XTL and X3L) as well as sansamp pedals in the past.
While it's not a bad amplification solution it's not stellar either.Pros:
Cheap
Lightweight
Looks decent
Reliable amplification, loud enough for most things.Cons:
Not FRFR
Built- in Celestion 70/80 speaker is by definition a guitar amp speaker, sounds fairly neutral but a bit dull also. The biggest disadvantage is that the unit is not FRFR, therefore nowadays I wouldn't recommend it for a modern amplification system for a modeller/profiler.
-
Thanks Doc,i think that has explained why people arent using them.
-
I use PE with a Beyma 12GA50 loaded instead of Celestion. I dod't know if is the best FRFR system, but sounds awesome with my KPA & Axe II. I use Atomic Power cabs that sound awesome too.
-
But the Doc said it wasnt FRFR?
-
Tech 21 claims that the power amp of PE is "transparent" and "uncolored",but the stock speaker is basically a guitar speaker. The Beyma I have loaded is a full range speaker.
-
Correct.
The Celestion 70/80 is a guitar speaker and as such not FRFR. With a different speaker the results could be much better theoretically as the amp in itself is fairly neutral and non- colouring. -
Yeah, the behavior of the PE changed with full range speaker loaded, and sounds awesome with any modeller I've tried.
-
Thanks for the info chaps.never really thought too much about speaker cabs, monitors, frfr etc till i got the kemper.just used a wall of marshalls all the time, but now trying out some new ideas.

I wonder why no one makes a 12 speaker with a tweeter in the center like the old HF speakers?
You could pop that in a power engine and have the best of both worlds. -

There are a lot of speakers like that available...Beyma being one of the most popular/affordable. Just make a search for 12" coax speakers...lots of choices

Thanks!
Does not seem there are many places to buy the Beyma.
Anybody here with one, where did you find it? -
Google is you friend, alternatively search the Beyma website for the distributor and ask him where to buy one

I sometimes use a Tech 21 PE 60 as is and just adjust my profiles to sound good with it. No problems here...I get great tones out of it.

ok.thanks for info.
