Line level gear before instrument input. OK or kaboom?

  • So I've been doing something kind of silly lately where I run my guitar into some 500 series gear (jhs 500 series superbolt, then colourbox) then out to the front panel input of my Kemper rack unit. I know it's way too hot of a signal, but turning it down low it can sound really great on some profiles.

My question is this: Is this ok? Am I going to blow anything up doing this? Is there a better/safer way?

    Thank you!

  • Hey JW,

there should be no audible distortion going as long as the Input LED is not steadily on red (set Cleans Sens accordingly to the input signal).

Another option would be to use the Aux input on the back. It can be stereo as well. But you wouldn't be able to have the signal processed through the Kemper rig.
