Random, brief "wah" tone happening

  • On my Rack (current OS) and remote, I have a Mission expression pedal dedicated to wah. I get this odd, totally random sonic event where, regardless of the rig I'm using, i'll get a momentary tone change that sounds like the wah in toe-down mode (high treble tone). It last a second or two, then returns to normal. I've calibrated the pedal several times, it's set to bypass at stop. I've check the cables/plugs. It sounds great when used, but this random sonic event is annoying.

    Any thoughts?

  • I would try setting the Bypass at toe or heel and see if that changes anything. Sounds like the pedal may be moving on its own and kicking in the wah. Have you tightened up the tension screw so the pedal stays where you leave it when you remove your foot?

    Thanks

    Sean

  • Thanks for the advice Sean -- I'll try tightening up the tension. This is happening in my music room, fairly low volume during practice by myself (Covid has killed band rehearsal for the time being). Hard to imaging I'm getting sufficient vibration to move the value of the pedal, but who knows.

And thanks, Luntho. I had searched the forum and didn't see that thread. The thread was not very encouraging, was it? Kemper seemed to think it was "normal" behavior and that the Profiler was just "sensitive" to ambient fluctuations in cable resistance. Interesting interpretation.

I think I'll probably go to "bypass at toe" and reduce the calibration sweep to see if that works.

    Thanks,

    Greg

  • Have you tried @bypass stop, although assume this isn't any better ?

I prefer it anyway as unless you used a cocked wah sound as reduces the number of movements. It also mimics a conversion I did with my crybaby years ago to make it touch sensitive...can't stand click on and off and a big benefit to me of the @bypass xx function.

  • I would need to give my Mission pedal some viagra to get it to stay firm in any one position :D

I prefer to use the toe switch to turn the Wah on and off as it feels more like using a Crybaby. I also have a Morley Wah but could never get he hang of having a separate switch beside the pedal rather than under the toe. Call me old school 8o

The separate switch on the Morleys were a nightmare!

I fitted a micro switch on the top of my crybaby because I hated the click on - so many times tried to click it on, realised its not on, tried again, finally got it on...missed the solo :)

I even used a wah "plate" which was pretty good although I ended up using it for my whammy..
