Using a powered KPA to make impules responses??

  • Hey everyone!!

I've recently been scouring the interenet for the various methods people use to create IRs of their favourite cabinets. One common theme I noticed is the use of a linear power amp to drive the speaker cabinet while the software is performing a frequency sweep. Does anyone think the power amp inside Kemper heads are linear enough to do the job? Also, would the process be as simple as running the sweep into the front instrument input and instrument level, or go into the Kemper at line level via some other input/maybe use some sort of reamp box?

Let me know what you're all thinking!! Cheers, stay safe everyone!!8)

  • yes. I think I actually tried it about 2 years ago and got decent results (my memory isn’t what it used to be though). Personally, I have no need for it as the Kemper Cabinet section is as good as any IR so I don’t use IRs. Even if you make an IR it will need to be converted to a Cabinet to use with the KPA so there is no benefit unless you plan to use the IR with other decices.
