People's music and backgrounds

  • Having been on this forum for about 5/6 years, its only recently I've noticed some peoples links in their posts of their own music.

Wow....that's all I can say....some great musicians and enginneers on this site. Whilst that shows up in their posts, its also clear when you watch some of the stuff.

    Not going to name anyone

From Grammy award winners ( I'm still in awe of that), through to someone working on Mark Knopflers profiles and with Brian May, its great to be part of this community.

Anyone want to big themselves up on this thread or put links up, I'd love to listen....no judgements.

Moderators - feel free to move if in the wrong place..

  • This is my bands first single Abandon from our first album Out Of The Silence we did in 1988. Long time ago. ?

Recorded a lot of albums since (with this band and others) but I am still happy with what we did back then especially as it was my first major label recording.

  • Yes this forum is amazing. I got to meet Mike Britt here. He was playing at a casino near me, invited me backstage. I have also met a guy from Houston that I talk to daily. On this forum we're all just Brothers of the kemper thats it. People here seem to have no issues sharing their knowledge and ideas.

  • Yeah, great stuff, Vinny! 8)

Big Toto influence there, no? If I had to guess, I'd say the album "Isolation" from 1984 sounded closest, but that's probably 'cause it fell square into the mid-'80s pop-rock era of chorussed guitar and big snares. Hmm... :/

Yes, Isolation was a massive influence on me. It’s one of the reasons I went and bought a Mesa Mk series head once we had signed to A&M.
Back then, we were also really into Foreigner, Mr Mister, Journey etc. Working with Mike Shipley and Larry Klein on that album certainly helped to get those sounds. In the UK, I did practically all the distorted rhythms and main solos on my Mk3.

When we went to LA to finish the album, we did all the clean guitars and all the guitar ad libs through the songs.

We were renting loads of stuff from Andy Brauer. This was the first time I got to use Bradshaw systems. We rented a few off him as well as Mesa Mk3, Mk2C+ and Caliber 50 amps. One of the amps was Luke’s MK2C+ head. His name was stencilled on the front of the flight case. I asked him about it years later and he said he had no idea Brauer was renting his amp out. ?

Great times. In LA, we were recording in Joni Mitchell’s house in Bel Air as she was then married to Larry Klein one of our producers. I was only 22 (had my 23’s birthday out there). Very happy part of my life. Young and single spending a couple of months in 80’s Cali

  • Couple of interesting things about the video I posted. The girl in the video is Mädchen Amick who went on to star as Shelly Johnson in Twin Peaks
Secondly, our keyboard player in the background is Professor Brian Cox who is now quiet a well know Physicist and television personality.

Our singer and studio keyboard player is Darren Wharton from Thin Lizzy.

  • i’m not stalking you Vinny Burns but Mark showed me this one one of his build your own guitar courses

Wow, that’s a blast from the past. When I turned up for that shoot, they had some large Fender combo that was soooooooo clean and there were no pedals to goose the front end with. I could have died. ???

Loved using the Eggle guitars though. They were just so easy to play and sounded brilliant. They were ideal for my time with Asia and then later on with Ultravox.

  • I used to have my guitars set up by an ex Eggle builder and I had a custom guitar made by Rob Williams who is ex Eggle...top guitars!!

Yes, they really were great guitars. Made by very talented people.
Rob refretted my #1 ‘78 Les Paul a few years back.

I stupidly sold both of my Berlin Pro’s in the 90s. Really miss that red one.

  • That can't be true? Really? O...M...G!!

    Dude, you have lived!

??? Yes, Brian was with us from 86 until 91 when we both left the band. I did some good things in between and rejoined in 2008. During that time, Bri did quite well for himself. ???

Second to last shot features Scott Gotham who popped down to see us at the photo shoot.

I have been a Dare fan right from the start and 'Out of the silence' is still one of the best AOR albums ever made. I write and play AOR myself too.
We've just recorded our third album and we're mixing right now. Here is some music from the previous albums on Spotify.
