Headphones vs IEM

  • I have the following:

beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 80 Ohm
    Shure SE215 (IEM)

I noticed that my IEM I prefer the tone and response vs my more expensive headphones.

Anyone else have experience this as well? I am thinking about getting some better IEM like a Mackie MP-240 dual driver.

  • Same here. I started with SE215s as well before going to ACS Evoke 2 customs. It all seems more immediate than studio headphones.

Also, I think the single drivers probably work in favour of guitarists, because it is primarily a mid range instrument.

  • The Shure SE215 have a pretty significant bump at 2.5kHz compared to the DT 770 Pro 80 Ohms ... and a pretty massive bass bost as well.

This can be part of the reason why you like them. the 2.5kHz area is quite an important one for electric guitar, so it can significantly help to (seemingly) "cut through the mix".

If you really like them, why even think about the Mackie MP-240?
