I killed my focustire 2i2

  • Hi guys! this is my first post so please bear with me.

i love my kemper and i have been using it exclusively with my mission engineering cab. I have a focustite scarlet 2i2 and i decided to try using it with my studio monitors. I had a grandmeister deluxe previously with the redbox so i am familiar with using amps with audio interfaces. I used my Kemper speaker output with a spearker cable going to one of the inputs of the 2i2. when i turned on the kemper there was a sharp ringing sound and then a burning smell... my 2i2 is dead. i have a powered kemper.

    Any clue to what happened?

  • You don’t ever plug speaker outputs into audio inputs. You only plug speaker outputs into speakers and even then, only speakers that can handle what the amp will output.

You should have used the main or monitor outs and NOT the speaker out.

The red output is not the main out, it is the speaker out.

  • The Speaker output is the same as a speaker output from an Valve amp.

Would you connect a speaker output from a valve amp to your Interface? Nope. Focusrite will be fried and as said above, you need to check your power amp in your KPA.

It is probably the most damaging connection you could have made.

    Sorry dude!
