I found GTR5 easy to use and you could dial in a "few" good high gain tones on it, but you still did not get the string response that I was desperately missing that Kemper gave me. I like the hearing the "human factor" on a recording. Most all those other digital modelers always sound like each pick attack or each chord is just a loop of the previous one.

I also tried the alll new Amplitube 5. I have been using Amplitube since the very beginning, but moved forward with other amp sims over time, until I got the kemper of course. But wow; A5 really sounds amazing. The ability to use more amps at the same time is awesome when they sound this realistic. Great stuff.

You have to consider, that when using the room mics / different rooms in Amplitube, it will not sound the same after profiling. That's something the Kemper can't do. You only get the "eq" of it but not the room.
I'm testing Amplitube 5 for 3 days now. There are still some bugs, but the core sound is really good.
The thing is: You have to completely ignore ANY presets and start with the "default".
Then load your gear / amps and again ignore all the default amp settings, default stomp presets...
Just dial out the unreasonable settings and dial in, what you would do with a real amp. Explore the different amp modes. This is very easy and intuitive and now everythings sounds like it should.
I think that is the problem with almost every utube video I've seen. Many of those (payed or lazy
) people just don't:- Properly setup their interface for AT5 (wrong input gain, weak signal or clipping... sample rate...)
- They just rush through unusable, overlaoded presets or choosing amps (also preset settings) and are not fine tuning them to their guitars like you would do with any real amp (at least some quick adjustments)
What I can say is, that FOR ME AT5 sounds better than any AT before. The new cabs sound rounder, more realistic and I don't want to load some 3rd party IR instantly
But you can. And the build in IR loader is great. You have LPF and HPF and you can adjust cab size and tilt (small adjustments have a big impact here). I already used this to make my 1x12 IR sound bigger. I am experimenting with "tilt" too - seems you can add highs (like cab tilted upwards) or the opposite (cab tilted downwards), which is a similar effect as standing in the room with the ears above the speaker. EDIT: Maybe "tilt" is just something like mic position.
I always liked Fender 2 collection, but now Fender 1 has benefitted a lot from the new cabs and sounds glorious. The Deluxe Reverb is just what I needed. The Champion 600 is so cool....
The Engl amps with the new cabs are nice (and very versatile) too.
And the new amps are just killer. The MiniPlexi 20 (Friedman Pink Taco) for example is just fantastic.
The workflow just works for me. For nostalgic reasons I created a preset with a Boss Metal Zone stomp (Metal Distortion).
The trick is to first ignore the preset again, turn everthing on the pedal at noon and than fine tune only with level and gain. Used the PRS Archon 50 model with neutral settings as a clean platform, dropped in a Mesa 4x12 cab with V30, tiny bit of reverb. Ready to rock preset in 3 minutes, that sounds awesome (when you like a Metal Zone

Its not easy for me to use my Kemper at home so I use amplitube 4. I've never been happy with the sound, I only like the Engl Powerball and cab, everything else to me sounds fizzy/odd. I caveat this with I use the lite version with custom shop amps so I have limited adjustment
This review is really interesting, just hope its not cost prohibitive :).
I do get lost a bit in their model so any advice on how to purchase without buying the whole lot would be useful!

I uploaded a profile of a Bassman combined with an AC30, from Amplitube 5. Of course the Kemper profiled it accurately. To me it sounds like the real thing(s), but I might be wrong.

I've never had those amps and I'm not used to play Rigs created by mixing 2 completely different signal chian,.. said that.. the profile Doesn't sound bad at all.
just a bit too Loud for my tastes but ..it's a good sound! Thanks for sharing!
anyway there's a strange background noise, .. rithmic in some way.. you can listen if you turn back all the way down to 0 the Noise Gate intesity control and You turn the Master Output up.
I don't know how You got, it would be interesting to understand, that but it's not me (my studio)
it's only audible in that profile.

I have Amplitude 4 with the free upgrade. I am pretty impressed. As a classic rocker ala old school Aerosmith 70s - 80s classic rock and metal ( Scorps, Priest, Maiden, Saxon ) I think IKM Amplitude nails it easily. Best of all you can hit a power cord and let it ring out and you don't get that horrible digital fizzle on the tail end of the fade,
If you have IKM 4/5 try the Tube Vintage combo with its 2x12 cab ( Pres - 4oclock, Vol - 3oclock ) add the BOSS DS-1 ( Tone - 3oclock, Dis-off/7oclock, Level-2oclock)
I love it. For me its a classic rock sound heard through the 70s and 80s try it, you'll love it
