Gear You Got This Year - 2020

  • I really enjoy reading about people's new gear and miss the old thread.

    * Ampeg SVT3Pro (bc I liked the UA plugin, the real thing isn't so much)

    * Danwer Prince Boonar (sold, interesting pedal tho)

    * '18 Fender Pro Strat

    * Lynx Hilo (sold it this month, too complex for me)

    * TC M-One XL (had this before, really liked some of it's reverbs)

    * Fender MIM Tele w/ Fralins (more helping out a local store in bad times)

    * Built a 5E3 wired tube amp from FranklynAmps in NC. Fun covid project.

    * T-Rex Replicator (sold, I just don't keep pedals for long anymore, having the Kemper)

    * Roland TR8S (sold, was just curious)

    * Yamaha G-55A classical (gift from friend cleaning out garage)

    * Beyerdynamic 990

    * Beyerdynamic 770

    * Boss DR-880 (owned before, more for instigating songwriting)

    * Behringer X-Touch (3rd time owning, lol)

    * Roland Fantom XR (been buying old sound boxes for variety)

    * Roland SE-02 (sold, curiosity)

    * Akai MPC Live II (curiosity, might sell, jury is still out on that decision)

    * Oberheim Matrix 6R (love this synth!)

    * Korg Triton Rack (and added MOSS board and a few other boards)

    * Positive Grid Spark

    * TAscam 688 (sold, was transferring 8-track tapes to digital)

    * VooDoo VR2 mic

    * Neumann KM184

    * Collings OM2H

  • Unbelievable, Dennis!

    The Matrix - awesome.

    Triton Rack with MOSS and additional boards? Sensational.

    Fantom XR - great. Same sound as the XV-5080, which I loved.

    TC M-One XL - awesome.

    Busy year gear-wise for you again. Way to go, brother. 8) I just bought a bunch of plugins from Plugin Alliance; that's all... and of course Profile packs from Bert, Michael and Guido. :pinch:

    Saving my bananas for the Apple Silicon Mac Pro when it eventually drops...

  • I always do get plugins, but honestly, use less than 5% of them ever. I'd say "waste of money" yet every project I make good use of some plugins, so, maybe not after all.

    But yeah, got the Motif XS, Fantom XR, Korg Triton Rack and Roland Integra-7. I'm set with sounds for life. I was KIND of thinking "get this stuff now for retirement" since I'll have less salary then and this will all cost more. Sure, there are wav files you can just buy but I just like rackmount gear.

    The Matrix IS awesome. So friggin organic. I do have a DSI Rev2 16voice and while it's amazing, the Matrix has gravitas. Makes you take notice. Probably perfect also for making horror films, haha.

  • Yeah I got all that stuff and the last song I wrote sounds like an early 70s singer-songwriter, acoustic driven song with 1 small electric guitar part. Not one synth. not one sax.

    You THINK you'll create a symphony and out comes this Lou Reed throwaway, haha

  • It was an unusual year with a lot of turnover of gear. Here are the highlights.

    PRS Santana MD bucket list guitar

    Gibson Chet Atkins bucket list guitar

    Kemper Profiler Stage for outdoor shows at assisted living facilities

    RME Babyface Pro FS super portable interface with four analog inputs

    Bose L1 Pro8, L1 Pro16, L1 Pro32 (Pro8 for outdoors shows at assisted living facilities, Pro 32 just ordered, inbound)

    Yamaha THR30II Wireless which sounds great for late-night musings with the Kemper Profiler Stage

    Positive Grid Spark fun for quick 'n dirty fooling around

    Explorer 500 Portable Power Station for outdoor shows at assisted living facilities

    Profile packs (a bunch), mainly to support people who post instructional videos

  • Nice stuff db9091 , Monkey_Man and ST ...impressive lists :thumbup:8)

    Difficult year here (luckily not because of Covid but rather some other private hassle) so I sold a lot of stuff. Kinda clean-up of things which did not get enough attention and an attempt to make my musical environment way more lean and focused. Sold guitars (Charvel & Ibanez), cabs (trusty ENGL 4x12), studio gear (ART DPS II, Boss 9,5" PRO series), mics (Oktava & Shure), audio interfaces (AVID, M-Audio) and more. Looking back I'm pretty surprised how much came in even for older stuff including the pretty good feeling that I made some people really happy with some gems :)

    So I just bought a few little things which (probably) make me very happy:

    • Behringer RX1602 Rack Mixer
    • Kemper Kone, which I plan to put into an old Rocktron 1x12 (ported) cab in the next days
    • Harley Benton GPA 100 Class D Power Amp for use with the Kone (tried it already with some other gear and it is incredible, very pragmatic approach)
    • EZDrummer2 and some extensions for quick demos and some inspiration for my drummer
    • A handful of great profile packs from Bert, Guido and Michael

    And finally (hard to remember that it was already 2020 when I got it): My second Fender Billy Corgan Signature Strat incl. some modifications from my luthier. Lovely piece and still I am playing the other one way more... 8)

  • Well, that is a list and a half for me. Apparently being locked in the house most of the year, GAS becomes a hobby.

    This year I have gotten

    • PRS Tremonti SE Custom
    • Built a custom MIM Strat

    • I probably forgot something, other then my wife telling my I should stop buying stuff.
    • Edit - I did forget My power conditioner, bakers rack for my tube amps,
  • Nice stuff db9091 , Monkey_Man and ST ...impressive lists :thumbup:8)

    And finally (hard to remember that it was already 2020 when I got it): My second Fender Billy Corgan Signature Strat incl. some modifications from my luthier. Lovely piece and still I am playing the other one way more... 8)

    ===============

    I built a Billy Corgan pickguard to spec one time, had it for a few, then sold it successfully. Nice to see the whole guitar tho!

    EZ Drummer 2 is pretty popular, good to see. Very useful software on so many levels. So you make your own beats or buy MIDI files?

  • EZ Drummer 2 is pretty popular, good to see. Very useful software on so many levels. So you make your own beats or buy MIDI files?

    Actually both but more the latter. EZDrummer is the only item on my list which indeed is kinda related to the pandemic situation as I am not seeing my bandmates often enough. So I had the need to create better drum sounds and especially grooves on my own to sketch song ideas. But some of the midi packs as well to create foundation for my drummer but also to dive into other styles and get lots of inspiration. Rabbit hole that is... but so far I like it a lot 8)

  • I got a pretty balanced (financially) list of in & out gear for 2020. ;)
