Exactly what the title says: I would love to see a VST plugin wrapper for Rig Manager to handle performance and patch automation inside a VST host (for instance, Ableton Live). The VST wrapper would communicate with Rig Manager, and Rig Manager would then communicate with Kemper hardware.
Key benefits:
- Would not require any firmware updates
- Higher automation resolution than MIDI CCs
- Correct labels in automation lanes vs. MIDI CC numbers
- Correct automation unit values (eg. 3.5 dB, 20%, on/off, etc.)
- Rig Manager already exists and deeply integrates with Kemper hardware
I use a Kemper Stage, so the unit stays on the floor and I only ever use Rig Manager to edit patches etc., which is a great experience. However it feels like going back to the stone age working through automation and live performances; having a separate USB-to-MIDI cable plugged into the Kemper, and having to pour through the manual to sort out which MIDI CC maps to each parameter. A thin VST wrapper for Rig Manager would solve this, and would feel like a much more modern solution worthy of such a great piece of hardware.
