You've got £3500, but what guitar do you buy?

  • Here's a question just for fun,

You've been given £3500 or $4900 dollars, or 4050 euros, (or your currency equivalent), and you must only purchase a guitar with the money,

    What do you buy??

  • A Knaggs is high on my list for that kind of money.

    Kemper PowerRack |Kemper Stage| Rivera 4x12 V30 cab | Yamaha DXR10 pair | UA Apollo Twin Duo | Adam A7X | Cubase DAW
Fender Telecaster 62 re-issue chambered mahogany | Kramer! (1988 or so...) | Gibson Les Paul R7 | Fender Stratocaster HBS-1 Classic Relic Custom Shop | LTD EC-1000 Evertune | 1988 Desert Yellow JEM

  • I would get a custom strat built.

Neck: 24. jumbo frets, maple 12'' radius. Plek'd.

Body: Alder, SSH config, in pearl white. (no pickguard).

Pups, SSL-5s and JB bridge (with coil split and kill switch) (single volume, single tone)(5 -way blade).

    Floyd Rose trem.

That is my dream guitar, and then I would have money left over to maybe get a Mesa because I love the Mesa tones with Kemper.

  • This is fun, kind of like a guitar players lottery winner's wish list or porn for guitar players. I know you put a limit of $4900 - I'll get to that later but if money was no object I would get a Gyrock Guitar $16,000) 10 Switchable pickups built.

    Whoa - that's interesting.

It looks like you can change the pickup configuration on the fly. And the one you chose is gorgeous.

  • WOW, what on earth is that???? I believe by the name its a german company, and by the looks it is a (I hope) bauhaus design. It looks soooo alien to me.

Follow the link to Teuffel Birdfish.

I've had two chances to get one in the past sixteen years. Both times, the vendors got seller's remorse ("Oh no! I just can't bear to sell it.") and the deal fell through.

That is correct, my buddy sent me the link awhile ago and I have lost sleep about it! If you get a chance check out the demo Gyrock

  • Several.

My old loves are an 89 American Strat and an 83 G&L one, but my Tele is new and I've been having trouble bonding with it. So maybe I'd chase down a used late 80s Tele, that's maybe $1500. I also have a Gibson Les Paul that I can't seem to bond with because I have a 2001 PRS McCarty that was just one of those love at first touch things. So maybe I'd see if I could find another 20 year old PRS, perhaps with a tremelo arm. That's probably another $1500 or so. My go to acoustic is a Larivee. Awesome for that sort of sound, but I don't have a Martin and that's a different kind of character, so maybe I'd use another $1500 for an older Martin. The other $400 I'd probably just blow on good booze and bad women.

Geez, nothing on my list is more than $1500. Man, I'm a cheap date. :)

I'm not so much into spending tons of money on vintage stuff (like a 60s Strat, five figures I'm sure) but I do prefer guitars that have some miles on them. The problem with a brand new guitar, like a woman, is that you never know where it's going to be in five years.

The really embarrassing part is that going through the list I realized that I already have everything I want.

Yeah. I know. Blasphemy. I'll see myself out.

Wow. If Robbie the Robot played guitar...

Kemper remote -> Powered toaster -> Yamaha DXR-10

  • I have my dream guitar already. Problem is that it is configured across 3 guitars. Guitar 1: has neck I want, Guitar 2: has color and 2 SS pups I want, Guitar 3: has 1 HB pup and Floyd Rose I want.

I'll never be satisfied with a pre-built model no matter what brand or price it is, so getting one built is the only way to go.
