You need to direct monitor the Spdif signal. This should be possible to set in the Focusrite Contol Panel ( or whatever it was called ).
If you monitor through the DAW there will be a lot of latency from the audio interface.

Thank you, looks like that can be the issue. Now the only thing left is to learn of those level Audio Interfaces (below $500) can do that Direct Monitoring thing. As far as I understand now, they can't.

and the NI Komplete Audio can't
Amptiness I use a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 3rd Gen and it definitely has Direct Monitoring. There's some info on Direct Monitoring in the download-able Focusrite Scarlett 3rd Gen owners manual.
Direct Monitoring is as simple as opening Focusrite Control and muting your DAWs playback and only listening to the playback of the Input of your choice(whether that's TRS or SPIDF). It's no longer a button or switch like the previous Gen units.
I use Direct Monitoring in my Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 and it works flawlessly
