I'm just getting started recording with my Kemper, so sorry if the question is... well, dumb. Thing is I just noticed that the waveform looks really compressed which seems a bit odd. Signal chain guitar>Kemper (with TopJimi Marshall profile)>main out>soundcard>daw. I was wondering if this is normal or if I'm doing something wrong. Top track is guitar straight into daw (Guitar Rig plugin). Bottom is Kemper. Grateful for any input!
Compressed waveform...

Any profile with distortion will make waveforms that look like that!

Thanks!
But really, as compressed as that!? I had no idea. So I guess it was a dumb question after all

There are no dumb questions Marten.
Distortion is a form of compression so it isn’t unusual for waveforms to look very compressed. The more distortion added the more compressed they get.

As the others said, this is perfectly normal. The waveform would look pretty much the same with a miked amp with similar settings. Try doing the same comparison with a clean profile and you'll see that it resembles the DI signal much more

The real question is: Does it sound good?
