Fellow Profilers, does anyone know of a Rig that can emulate the tone in the Ray LaMontagne song "Barfly"? Please see this link if you are not familiar with the tone. It is first heard right around the 1 minute mark - Barfly. It is a beautiful "dew drop" type of sound. Soft and round, but lovely sustain.
At first listen, it sounds like someone lightly picking a vintage output neck pickup, into a Fender-style amp with just enough gain to smooth out the attack. There is likely some reverb on the sound, but, I think the sustain comes from the player’s vibrato.
and use a nylon pick like a Jazz iii for a softer attack.
Seems like rigs based on a Fender Tweed Deluxe are getting me close to it. Along with the picking attack advice, I think that is enough for me to have fun with at least. Thanks guys.
