At home I have some Beyerdynamic DT250 which sound good but about 6 months ago I invested in some in ear monitors for stage use which I now use at home these are awesome!!!!!!! The make are 1964 ears and they are the 6 driver versions. They are worth every penny

This is a nice tool for comparing different headphones:

Yes, In-Ear monitors can be very, very good. You just need to figure if you don't mind wearing them for hours.

Must admit they were strange to wear at first but I'm well used to them now I don't even know they are there

I have been really enjoying my AKG K240's. Cheap, and really nice sounding for the Kemper.

+ 1 for the Sennheiser HD-280 PRO.

+1 for the ATH-M50
Seriously, they are a bargain at their price and IMHO are some of the best headphones you can get!
I check mixes on these all the time. Very detailed and responsive.
Senheisser 650s are also very good. More expensive though and for me, the extra cost is NOT worth it vs the ATH-M50.The thing is though, that everybodys ears are different, so while I may love Headphone X, you may prefer headphone Y. (Etc)
I always recommend people find out their own preferences their own way by trying them on at shop with a known source (bring along your favourite or better yet, your own mix).

I use IEMs too actually, though most of the time as a drummer onstage (A drummer? Here? in the Kemper forums? SHOCK HORROR! )
I wouldnt use them for checking mixes or anything but they can be a great tool for onstage work.
Guitars though, I'd just go with a good sound engineer any day of the week! -
My only experience with good cans is with the Audio-Technicia ATH-M50's - I've been using and abusing them since 2008 with no complaints. And this is working on everything from classical to drumfunk, breakcore, metal and ambient sludge stuff.

Another ATH-M50 user here.
I like it. The earcups could be a little bit bigger IMO, but no serious complaints. They sound good, and can be LOUD, which is not the case with some of the higher end headphones. -
I have both the ATH-M50's and the DT770. I prefer the 770's. Better detail in the mid range and I find them more comfortable. The M50's are just a little too hyped for monitoring purposes IMO.
