Noise Gate and Single Coils

    I just noticed that I have been keeping my main noise gate up pretty high (5.7 i think). I have fluorescent lighting in my basement where I play.


    I don't feel like there's any loss of dynamics because of this and things are dead quiet.


    All of this made me realize I can go back to P90s on my LP 60's Tribute. I had installed minihums because of the noise but I preferred the sound of the P90s anyway.


    I just hooked up my ASAT with aftermarket P90s and Ilitch Noiseless system (which I bypassed) and I realized there's pretty much no 60 cycle hum coming through because of the gate. I am really impressed with the transparency of this gate, it's amazing.


    Now.....time to sell those MiniHums and get some P90s back up and running.


    How high do the rest of you keep the main gate?


    Isn't it great? I'm pretty much in the same situation as you and all my three Strats are running stock Fender pickups, no noiseless here, been there done that. The 2:1 gate works great in the Kemper, it's all I really use.
