"only one more" would be much easier to answer, although there are a few i'd like to own one day, but okay... only one guitar: i would pick my custom 'special K' headless guitar, built by carsten grüning from hamburg! he didn't really like it as i wanted him to build her because of this headless thing but in the end he almost kept her. she's just that versatile, easy to play, well sounding... just awesome!
obviously it's the one on the right
Only ONE Guitar?

by the way: although the pic itself maybe look like metal... (the question was targeted to non-metal players) it's not! okay... not ONLY... the primary use for this guitar is CLEAN balladic stuff. the neck pickup is a SD 59, both knobs (vol & tone) are push/pull, so both pickups can be independently used as single coils or humbuckers! the bridge PU is a bill lawrence (pantera, dimebag)

I strongly suspect my ideal would be a P90 in something like a '63 ES-330.
They seem to be that perfect middle ground between HB and SC and also the guitar between hollow and acoustic.
But never having played one, I can only surmise. I love my P90 guitar a lot. When I look to classic recordings that I like it's King with I think a late 50's LP with P90's, and late 60's British rockers with P90 SG's. Strange I haven't a reproduction.
I wonder what Thorn's P90's are like.

If I had to choose one guitar it would be my 1989 Telecaster.
She does it all and I bring her to all my gigs, too. -
Epiphone Limited Edition Slash "Rosso Corsa" Les Paul Standard Outfit.

That swamp ash is some unbreakable stuff. I should give my Tele some more love. It does like all my amps too. -
Teles are awesome, and very versatile too That'd definitely be a contender for me. A strat HSS is another one. But seriously, I could be happy with any one of my guitars being the only one if I had to.
Need a bass too, though. Gotta have a bass. Recently got an American Jaguar - that'd be my pick for bass Active+passive, P/J pup configuration, satin jazz neck. Can keep it simple or complex, depending on preference (i prefer simple). Awesome!

OK folks. Here's a question for you non-metal players:
If you were allowed only one guitar to handle everything, what would it be?
My PRS SE 30th Anniversary Custom 24. Only a SE model, but great nevertheless. -
My first run Godin LG. It's a tank. Solid mahogany slab with a great neck and a couple of Schaller Tetrad's. With a little switch trickery and tone knob tweaking I can get just about anything with it... A true low dollar prize. I've seen 'em for just a few hundred bucks.

i guess "ONE ONLY" -if you ask a guitarist- means ONE ONLY +1
so what zappledan really means is: which TWO guitars would it be for the lone island -
My PRS SE 30th Anniversary Custom 24. Only a SE model, but great nevertheless.I have this model too and I agree that it has the feel and the tone of a US made PRS. Great stuff!

If it's gonna handle everything I'm a bit surprised not more are picking guitars with a whammy bar.
What about all the wonderful boiiiiinnnnnnnnng, "damn it's out of tune again" moments?

Only one???

:D[/quote]My Tom Anderson guitars stays in tune if I use the whammy too! I am not a big user, but sometimes when I want to be a rock & roll star I use it!
If i had to choose only one guitar I would say my latest custom made Tom Anderson. it can go from twangy strat to jazzy, and Les Paul tones. It have switcheroo system, so I can run each picup in serial or paralell or bypass. with full neck and full HB in bridge and middle pickup bypassed it can be in LP land!
Flame maple on alder, and ofcource its a looker! -
Only one???

LOL I know, Sam; it's too much for you to be able to handle. Don't let the thought scare you away from the therapy sessions; you're booked for Monday and I need the dough... for a guitar. Only kidding.Folks, as crappy as they are (when compared to "serious" guitars), surely a Line6 JTV would be a contender?
Strat, LP, Tele, Acoustics, 12-Strings, Semi-hollows, Ricks, Banjo, Sitar, Dobro, Resonator...

I think I have said to my girlfriend in the last 5 guitars I have bought; this is my last guitar!
Its not possible to have only one guitar... I play a varity of styles and genre, so I have to play a guitar that have the right feel shape and sound.. -

I think often variety is overrated

I recently saw a local lefty 2012 Gibson Les Paul Traditional in satin. I have one from the same year with a maple top (it's the "pro" version, so it's got book matched maple)
Since it was so cheap I figured I'd maybe keep it and sell my other one to put that towards the other guitar I bought (so my wife doesn't cover me in bruises)
That said, I was curious about how it sounded. I put a real bumblebee in mine. Mine has a maple top. Did they sound different? I recorded the same thing across the 3 selector switch settings, single note and chords and damn if both didn't sound EXACTLY the friggin same.
So it don't matter of you have maple top. Don't matter if you have a "real" bumblebee vs the faux bumble bee used in these modern traditional's as they both react the same. Amazing that both can be so accurate tonally.
Another thing to note, both guitars were PLEK'd and when I set this newly purchased one to the same specs (I love those StewMac guitar tools but I recently got a FretGuru gauge (Amazon) and like it better, black background helps you see the white markings better against the strings when setting the action) Well they both play like a dream. Easy to play, superb low action, just wow. When people say Gibson produces poor Quality Control? Well that was NOT true of 2012. Wouldn't have believed it if I wasn't holding these 2 guitar in my hands and comparing them by gauges, feel, and recorded tone.
I replaced the switch plate (cracked plastic -> metal) and found an original manual and truss wrench on eBay for the case candy (for when I sell it maybe) and even got a Gibson cloth for it.
The last picture is my baby. Which should I keep? The better looking first one I got?
Or the the cheapest simple looking one since both sound and play the same? Here's the eye candy. It's a player, lots of little dents but who cares. A little polish and it looks just fine:
