Why not Artists pack bundles?

  • I feel we should not think too complicated.

An artist pack could be made out of profiles of the known used amps and cabs optimised for the known used gear with a 1st set up done by the profiler. All this is known to a certain extend.

The rest is up to the user how he feels he has to tweak the initial set up.

This should be no problem using all KPA options for the fine tuning to your personal ears.

But there is no need to wait for Andy or Armin. Any one who has their rigs could post the right settings to aim at the "correct" artist sound.
I would love an Excel Table with a good collection of settings. The rest will be easy to be done by myself.

    GO FOR IT !!!

Geht nicht, gibt´s nicht. "Doesn't work" is no option. :!:

  • My goal is to capture ALL possible sounds of any profiled amp.

So in case your favorite artist uses this amp you should get close to your sound.

It would not sound the same because of all this:
    Fingers / Playing style
    Used guitar and pickups
    Different cabinet
    Different microphones
    Postprocessing

But you'll get the basic tone and can tweak with the KPA knobs to get it closer.

Even if we would profile the exact rig of any artist - it would sound different because of the player.

I posted a list of gear used by different artists here:

  • Whilst Andy, Armin and others may be right technically front a marketing point of view its a no brainer.
Most artists change there amps over time and many guitarists will just love to get a Clapton, SRV, EVH, Slash or whatever with the N definitive amps over time. And guitarists just love to buy the gear of there hero's - just reference the plethora of signature guitars we have nowadays....

ps and can somebody profile Kossoffs' fingers for me?

  • I must smile, to see how easy it comes up, telling somebody he is not right or his ideas make no sense ;)

Just think about, If somebody requests something, he could be aware of all found probs but could live with a suitable compromize.

If it makes sense, thats the decision of the questioner, isn´t it ?.

Shouldn´t we be more positive and solution oriented ^^

  • Yes, but you always have to be clear because a lot people expect things that are just not possible. The main reason why people buy signature gear is because they expect that by acquiring it they will sound like the artist which is never true at the end, unless you are capable of playing exactly like that artist.

When talking about profiles this will even more difficult since you don't only need the gear but use the same mics, mic positions, mic preamps and post processing as the original artist. On top of that this usually changes per record/song/live sound. So in other words quite complex unless the artist is actually involved in the creation of the profiles. If not you will have to compromise and this should be very clear to the customers before hand so there is no misunderstandings.

  • They said it would be not possible to to cross the atlantic ocean.

Dont you think it is only a question of expectations ?

Who would have thought 2 years ago a preamp like the KPA would be so clo se to the original ?

Only your ears convert the waves to a sound.

Yes. It obviously depends on what you expect. If someone was to release Artist packs I would expect them to be as if they were made by the artist himself. I understand others could live with something close to but as Armin said you can already do that with the current commercial profiles.

That's they key. To clone something so accurately you need the original.

  • OK then, I will ask my question another way. Could you guys post samples of the artist tones you made using actual profiles and speak about how you set everything to be in the good ballpark? Maybe we could start a thread about artist tones this way?...

After all most of us will not live in music using their own tone signature ( I mean making money 8o ) and we often have to play covers. And when playing Pink Floyd or U2 covers, for example, the most accurate tone is critical.

So more playing less speaking please! :D

PS: And please no more "the tone is in the fingers" affirmation, we already all know that!!! ;)

  • I used to want the tone-matched artist presets. There are several available for metal players. I have tried them all. To me, there ends up being an emptiness about sounding 'just like' the original recording after a while. It gets stale because, well it's been done before. So, I ended up abandoning tone-matched presets and creating my own using existing amps. Now when I'm doing a cover song, it sounds like me playing it. That's more exciting to me. YMMV

Why not tweak those clones? I did it with some of the Metallica ones and use my tweaked Master of Puppets preset 75% of the time!

Absolutely, man. Use everything available. I'm not trying to tell anyone what's right or wrong for them, I'm only adding my two cents in for what I have discovered works for me. You're right too, some of the tone matches are cool enough in their own right to use for original material. I have even highly recommended the tone matches from SilentUndergroundStudios many times. I just haven't used any of them ina few months. Maybe at some point again, I will. Then again, I have auditioned over 3,500 presets! There are more profiles than there is time right now!
With Metallica, it's fun to play their music through some of the amps they play now- Krankenstein, Diezel, etc... you can totally cop their modern sound....
BTW, my favorite tone match is Tills 'Life of Agony' patch. Playing it now. Killer, even though I don't cover their music!

  • There are numerous sites that post amp settings and pedals. Most are modeling sites which is different then profiling but they may help you get close to a full rig. I would think if you took the data from these sites and then used Isotope you could get a damn close tone match.

  • I'd be more interested in producers bundles over players. There are enough good amp profiles to get into the ballpark, and lets be honest, we're only ever going to get in the ballpark.

I'd be really interested in having some producer bundles with mix ready sounds. Sneap is the obvious choice.
