Do you have the sound muted when in tuner mode? If not, then you can get some odd sounds.
What I was referring to is the option to mute sound while in Tuner mode. It's a soft button (on the far left above the LCD screen). It's a useful way to simply mute the unit anytime you need to.
Yep - happens to me as well - didnt bother about it too much because I dont stay in tuner mode for very long anyway.
Call me crazy but I thought the KPA's auto ranging tuner actually "plays" a tone when the there is guitar signal input. This tone is the correct pitch and audibly "beats" against the guitars pitch when they don't match. It's like having a strobe tuner that audibly oscillates until the pitches match. I don't use the KPA's tuner because I have a VG99 as a front end and it does polyphonic tuning.
Is this what we are hearing?

Maybe, but you don't hear anything when it's muted 
Not hearing the tone while muted stands to reason since the matching tone wouldn't be useful when muted. I am going to investigate tonight.
Tuner mode used to sound odd to me but it doesn't anymore in more recent os releases But it used to sound warbly.
Ok. I am crazy. I tested it and its gone It must have been in a previous FW rev.
