I just want to learn how to do it, I dont want to earn money for it, if they come out OK, they will all be free
(for KPA users, I might charge the axefxII users though LOL

Axe II Users will be able to use them. I don't care if you take money i just know that Cliff is supposed to do his owns and i would like to see his owns first.
You can build an IR by using other IRs.You have to send a test tone into your cab and record the result then deconvolve both signals, the test tone working as the signal source.
The result will be your IR.You can deconvolve the signals by using Voxengo deconvolver, here :
http://www.voxengo.com/product/deconvolver/The test tone can be a 20 sec sine sweep, or a pink/white noise.
Thats' all.

The "God's Cab" collection is great. It's here:

Guys,
There are literally thousands in that link I posted. I don't see how you could need more than that. Seems like a waste of time to make more. Play more, work less
-
I'm going to try these out and see if I have any better luck. I've sampled about a hundred from various sources and I haven't found a single keeper yet.
-
I also noticed that the CAB MAKER is version 1.0. Will there be a 2.0? Also, wondering if Kemper has something planned, like an IR pack download. (Just thinking out loud)

http://signalsaudio.com/site/gods-cab/Hey Guys,
I was skeptical to IR initially but after trying "God's Cab", a cab you must really dig in .... They are awesome!! One of the best so far since Tills Cab and Andy's Cab ....
Simply download from above link and select the wave file you want and convert it thur KPA Cab Maker and copy to KPA -
The cab maker can also load and convert multiple files at the same time.

I converted the 44.1 versions of God´s Cab.
Didn´t test them yet, so feel free to report some results
here they are: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8kd5…Cab_44.1_KPAconverted.zip -

Whoa, there are a TON of cabs in there! I'm hesitant to put those all on my KPA. -
I´m thinking about how to handle that mass, too
Maybe I´ll give all the ones named "....grill_edge_pres_3" a first chance, which seems to be a mic placement I often get good results with...
-
Well, for any who actually try these out, reviews would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, perhaps someone could compile a "best of" collection. I could use some more flavours for the next bunch of mixed cabs
-
This thread should really be in this new section: For Eric Jonhson fans - James Santiago cabs converted to KPA cabs
I found these to be outstanding cabs for clean tones. There aren't so many that it's intimidating, so you can go through them all. However, there are many that sound pretty much identical, so I picked just a couple to save.

just a quick test:
I imported all different mics with these settings, which equals my starting point in micing a speaker:
..._TS_1_inch_edge_pres_3 and ..._1_inch_edge_pres_3
that means: mic placed at the edge of the cone in one inch distance, amp presence set to about half, with and without a Tubescreamer , which acts as a heavy mid-boost.
My impression: all the cabs sound somewhat lifeless and flat, they lack some low end, some nice shining overtones, and mids when the tubescreamer is not active.
The difference from mic to mic is surprisingly little!
They are usable, maybe a different settings brings better results, but so far they a no competition to TillS cabs. -
My impression: all the cabs sound somewhat lifeless and flat, they lack some low end, some nice shining overtones, and mids when the tubescreamer is not active. That´s the same impression i had when testing my favourite red wirez IRs that i used in my pre-KPA time. Though these IRs sound pretty in combination with my JVM in DI mode, they somehow feel "wrong" when i use them with the KPA.
I was thinking of "pre-processing" IRs before converting them. This could be done with the batch function of Wavelab... Maybe i should give it a try...
-
Guys,
i just did a short test:
I tried deactivating the cab section and added a red wirez IR in my DAW and recorded a short sample. Second clip is the same IR when used as a converted file in the cab section of the KPA. To my understanding, both methods should sound the same... But this is really strange:
-
I guess when you convert the signal something gets changed? This is a bit dissapointing, because I guess it means that the IR's aren't exhibiting their intended characteristic. The frustrating thing about IR's is that they still exhibit power amp characteristics.
I still think you guys need to check out the sperimental cab pack. This was the one I had success with. The mesa boogie oversized and traditional sound good.
-
When you switch off the cab section you enable the CabDriver, as you would with 'MonitorCabOff'
When you import a cab to the rig, then CabDriver is not involved.
One could say, this is not the correct way to handle it.On the other hand there a topic yet to be discussed, how authentic IRs can be.
And I don't mean a static behavior of IRs, but about the way they have been captured.Does anybody know how those cabs have been captured?
