Used Kemper - How much would you pay?

  • Hello Guys,

i bought my green Kemper in November 2012.
Its still brand new and with full warranty and invoice from Klangfarbe Austria.

I am going to sell the Kemper next month on ebay.de because I want to buy the new rack version.

Whats a realistic price for a used Kemper?

What do you think? Anyone interested?

    Greets
    Chris

  • To buy a new one and keep the lunchbox for home/studio use would probably be the best solution.
But money wise its not affordable for me :(

You could rent the lunchbox version to your envious friends and eventually make enough with rent money to actualy have the rackmount version pay for itself 8)

  • ~$1450-1500 USD. I bought a new one with a coupon for 15% off so that was about $1650. You don't want to price yourself out of the market.

  • Hi Chris (or anyone with a used lunchbox), I'm looking for a used kemper.....PM me if you are willing to sell....
Was looking for the black one, but green is ok, too ;)

  • My opinion used hear is always the same.
I would't pay an used item more that the original price minus the VAT, if it is in perfect condition and still covered by warranty.
At this moment KPA sell new for 1550 euros here in italy (besides some old stock with old price), so I'd never pay more than 1150-1200 euros.

  • ^ Hey, that's interesting! I guess the VAT is just a psychological threshold?

Unless you can get your VAT back because you work professionally in the field, no-one is going to have a profit over the VAT percentage, thus for the final user you bought the unit from it (the VAT I mean) does not seem to have a special meaning.

Genuinely interested in your opinion here ^^

    totally agree!

Plus - aside from a Kemper - many warranty claims would have to be routed through the original buyer, which can become troublesome for both parties.

90% of the game is half-mental.

My approach is the same of some other markets.
If you buy a car and sell it just outside the corner 5 minutes later as a private seller you loose the vat.
Those are the quotations of specialistic magazines, and I think it is an honest approach.
It reflects the real value of the good you are buying, in the end.
Why should I buy something used just to save 10% when I can wait a b stock unit, coming from a professional seller, whit all the protection given by law, like returning the unit?
I mean: everybody owns his money, so you are free to save zero euros (just like it was happening with fas stuff months ago), but I don't accept the logic of "let's just save a little money".
If I have to loose some law protection I have to save a substantial amount of money, IMHO.
To me, that amount is 20-21% at least, if the unit is brand new and with warranty on it.
In the end we are talking about industrial stuff with an huge availability, not of a limited production holding its value in the time.

  • Well, not exactly.
As I told before, the vat is usually lost in a market like cars, which is one of the market with the longer history of second hand deals. It has some similarities with musical instruments, IMHO.
We are talking about mass production, with some kind of customisation available, with many people looking for used stuff.
They have some magazines that, as you know, are a kind of authorities in fixing the value, and indeed they are taken as a reference for deals and contracts about them.
For my experience in the used market, apart form the crazy prices I saw to FAS stuff, I had very very very hard times in selling something which had a price reduction below 20-25%. Which is basically the vat.
