How difficult is it to get a FCB1010 going? And what chip do I need? How much time? Right now I could get by with a stereo switch for going from profile to profile and an expression pedal for a whammy pedal effect but I hate to spend the money on those if I can get the FCB1010 going.

With the use of an editor it takes only minutes to program an FCB1010.
As for the right chip: the KPA- specific UnO chip is announced but not yet available.
I estimate it will only take a few weeks from now. -

There are a couple options out and more coming. Typically these suppliers give you a discount if you buy a prom and then upgrade.
http://www.ossandust.be/ Here is UNO.
http://www.eurekasound.com/ Here is Eureka
Programming is easy with or without a computer. The new one coming out allows for communication from the Kemper so it will recognize what FX is on or off which is good.

It's exactly this hard: MIDI Programming Tips

Thank you very much for the replies. Sounds like I should go ahead and get the foot controller vice getting a separate expression pedal etc..

I've had the GCP and this FCB1010 and you really can't go wrong with this controller for what you get in flexibility and price . The down side I see with it, which is preferential only, is the fact it uses rubber covered foot switches instead of the metal on off switches used by some others. It doesn't effect anything but appearance.

Using Behringer MIDI Pedal Board FCB1010 with UNO1.03 eprom (smartly pimped by iPAD) and KPA
This post will get you started. The UnO chip works great, but as Ingolf mentioned, the KPA version offers some special features and should be available soon. -
I'm having all kinds of problems with mine.
I'm having a problem enabling stompbox mode with my FCB and the Uno chip. The instructions on the Uno site say to hold down 1 and 10 while powering up and then to release them. The countdown should start from 09.
When I do that, however, there's no countdown and it goes straight to 00 instead. Then, when I connect it to Ripwerx, the stompboxes aren't enabled.
And when I import a patch dump set for the Kemper (stomps on top row, patches on bottom), it doesn't work the way it should. All the buttons select different rigs, but none of them control the individual effects.
I've been working on this for about a week now and it's driving me nuts.
And I've read about a dozen different descriptions on how to enable stompbox mode.
Does anyone know the definitive way to enable it?

Could it be that the eprom is not installed properly?
