1x12 to 4x12 and 4x12 to 1x12 EQ settings

  • hey.

here are EQ settings to give a 1x12 cab more of a 4x12 sound and vice versa.

"why would I want to do that, when I can simply switch cabinets?"

    two reasons:
    - maybe you like the character of the cabinet just fine, but you'd like it to have more 4x12 'oomph', or the exact opposite
    - thanks to the Mix parameter of the EQ it's not just a 1x12 to 4x12 approximation, but you can dial in exactly how much of that effect you want

    try it, it's fun

    post stack

    1x12 to 4x12
    Low Gain 9.3 dB
    Low Freq 72,5 Hz

    High Gain n/a
    High Freq n/a

    Mid1 Gain 4.1 dB
    Mid1 Freq 105.0 Hz
    Mid1 Q 4.113

    Mid2 Gain -5.0 dB
    Mid2 Freq 2080.1 Hz
    Mid2 Q 0.240

    4x12 to 1x12
    Low Gain -9.0 dB
    Low Freq 73,5 Hz

    High Gain n/a
    High Freq n/a

    Mid1 Gain -4.0 dB
    Mid1 Freq 108.4 Hz
    Mid1 Q 4.113

    Mid2 Gain 4.7 dB
    Mid2 Freq 2080.1 Hz
    Mid2 Q 0.240

  • How I like such type of things???
    YES, MORE AND MORE!!!! THANKS!

I will try and will have fun for sure

A question Don, maybe you can help me, since I read your statement "you can dial in exactly how much of that effect you want" ...
What is the difference on the final sound between this two EQ:
EQ 1) graphic EQ set with all freq to "0" db except 1250 Hz with +6 db, MIX 50%
EQ 2) graphic EQ set with all freq to "0" db except 1250 Hz with +3 db, MIX 100%

I suppose nothing, but never tested, any advice?
    Thanks

  • that's the same thing.
the advantage of using the mix instead of the gain parameter(s) is more apparent when you have multiple boosts/cuts, obviously.

Yes! Now it's obvious also to me, I can gently move throughout various EQ curves with little step instead of changing here and there the parameters, this is really GREAT! Thanks for the explanation

  • Hi I've just upoladed two rigs with nothing else that the setting shown above,
in case some lazy one, woudn't spend time to set manually all those parameters..for a quick test
(I Still have to try them actually :-))
    anyway

    Thanks Don for the Input!..
Inserting those numbers I was wandering..
Why they are not Speculars settings??
I mean..if compared back and forth ''numerically'' I see
    1x12 to 4x12
Low Gain +0.3 dB for 1x12
Low Freq 72,5 Hz instead of 73,5

    Mid1 Gain +0.1 dB
    Mid1 Freq 105.0 Hz instead of 108.4
    Mid1 Q 4.113 SAME

    Mid2 Gain -0.3 dB
    Mid2 Freq 2080.1 Hz SAME
    Mid2 Q 0.240 SAME

    What are these differrences?
    ?(

  • Sorry guys Another Question ,
if I already use an EQ on my fav profile..(for ex. a 4x12 one)
is it better to put the 4x12 to 1x12 EQ just after the Stack and move my 1st eq setting After it.. isn't it?
