Joe Blob,
Were all your profiling attempts on 6972 firmware?

Want one in Tweed!

This is what Armin wrote in tips and tricks on 5 Jan.
To rename the tags for the amp or cab
block: 1) Hold Amplifier or Cabinet for some time 2) Press the soft key
'Show Tag' 3) Edit 4) And don't forget to save To change the 'Username'
in the full rig - press 'Rig' - 'Show Tag' ... -
My 'Crazy Horse' pedal sounds good into the Kemper and I'll do a profile of it through my deluxe in due course. All pedals have sounded pretty bad going into vst sims.

This is my 1958 Deluxe, almost dimed, going direct into the Kemper with the cab taken from a profile I took of the amp on 2. I've added a compressor and fuzz box in front, a stereo widener and a splash of reverb after. In a few weeks time I shall spend £20 and hire a rehearsal room nearby for four hours and do some extensive profiling of the amp at volume.

I think Armin posted something about how to edit tags.

At the bottom of Armin's first message on this thread. He's also got a package of Axe II profiles and a package of acoustic profiles for sale.

I updated to 6900. Is there any advantage to updating to 1.01 Beta? I seem to recall there were some problems with that. I'm still getting an occasional freeze, this time with the message 'DSP Error'. All is back to normal on reboot but this could be a PITA if you were gigging.

Just bought these. Can strongly recommend.

I should also mention that for this profile I used the Gondwana AC 30 cab which sounds similar to my own cab, which isn't a Jensen but an old blue Oxford, which is great sounding, despite the bad rep Oxfords get. Doing the profile with a lot of attenuation means the cab sound wasn't that great, so I matched the amp profile with the Gondwana.

You'll be getting an order from me later today.

Armin,
Another question. What tone setting did you use for your profiles? The Deluxe's tone knob affects gain as well as tone - more treble, more gain; using the volume knob of the unused input channel also affects the tone by adding low mids.

Armin,
What mic did you use for your profiling of the deluxe?
Is this one of the Fender reissues or a real deal 57?
I've been making further attempts to profile my 58 and a thing I noticed was how distorted it sounded when I played my guitar into it through the KPA. I found that I had to take the monitor volume all the way down to get the amp to sound playing guitar into it direct as playing it though KPA. So far I've only had a go at volume on 2.5.
-
Great stuff. Got the tone spot on.
-
Thanks for the dimed version. Really good dirty blackface sound. As others have mentioned the KPA seems to work better subtracting gain from a profile, to get dirty to go clean, than the other way round. Also liked the ts profile and interested to see that you had raised the definition quite a lot on that one.

Thanks for the help. I've got it working now. It was in a sub-folder 'KPA Operating System' within 'OS Update'. I took out the Kaos.bin file and put it into the OS Update folder and all was well.
-
I haven't yet managed to get it to upload the new kaos.bin file. I've put this in the O/S file as instructed. When I put the USB stick into Kemper I don't get any on screen instructions as the manual says I should. A tab appear 'external storage' device. When I click on this I only get options for importing/exporting and for backups and restores.

I profiled this with a Beyer M160 mic about three inches out, off axis, going through a Solo 610 BUT the amp volume was reduced down to conversation level through an attenuator. This is with my 1958 Deluxe set on 6 for tone and volume in the instrument channel. I have had to do quite a bit of tweaking. I've put a compressor before it. I think I now prefer the raw sound. I have had the input set at clean 2.2, dist +1.2, which has become my default setting for using KPA. I use a 62 reissue strat.
I have not used hexeditor or modified the file, so this is safe to try out.

I see on the fractal forum that Armin has posted a great clip of his 1957 Deluxe through the KPA and made a comparator clip with the Axe II. Armin, any chance of posting your KPA profile?
Thanks to all who've posted profiles so far. I'm particularly fond of the Blackface Vibrolux and the Victoriette, and also Hoss's champ and bassman. These were not in the included profiles on my KPA which is v6875.
