I just came back from my 3 days weekend tour gigs..
And the audience got crazy in all three places we played this weekend ! And whole my bag with CDs is sold out for the first time since we play with my band ! KPA sounded unbelivable after supporting us band.. with my monitor out (cab sim disabled) to rocktron V250 power amp to DV Mark C212V cab... and stereo output with cab sim on, to FOH :-)..
Folks were comming over to stage and it was like "WTF is that fancy lunchbox with this huge sound in the house tonght ?!?!?" My guitar was singing like Luciano Pavarotti I love this box more and more everyday -
My Kemper works smoothly on new FW
-
I use Audio Technica AEW4100 wireless system..and I can't get rid of strange, like train running low/mid rumble..Current noise gate in my unit handles hi frequency noise ok but this low typ of noise is annoing sometimes..I'm used to HUSH by Rocktron and this one was perfect in any situation for me ..
Thanks, -
I will check my BB Preamp out tonight then..
-
Im interested as well....how do you have it attached? And what brand is the rack? Looks like this one? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GR4S/
Hi
This one doesn't work in this case..It has to be soft plasic backside with plastic flat cover model..My is by SKB...
Cheers -

Is there a trick to mounting it in a 4 space rack?
Hi guys
Actually it's not so smooth process to instal it in 4U SKB..This one I've got has a soft plastic back side with plastic cover...so I pushed a little my KPA bending out plastic (it's quite flexible) ..also I made two small holes in SKB and removed two rubber gaskets (or however you call it in english) from underneath the KPA and catched with screws and tightened it together to prevent any move inside the case..Looks like it works for me And now sounds even better when I play -

??? What about posting the profile?
I even didn't touch profiling yet..waiting for my Spalwn from retubing..It came back ones, but destroyed by DPD (bent transformer, broken tubes inside..It was double boxed etc..!) ! Now I keep my fingers crossed..This guy packed it in three boxes ;-)..I use available profiles and some of them are really nice..
I use now this Divided by 13 profile with a little tweeking to my liking..and can't belive my ears..I can feel this amp just staying beside me ..I think I need to see a doctor! Christoph made a dengerous toy ;-)... -
OMG that's my sound I'm getting now from my KPA at my studio ! That's why I can't stop bloody playing..need to eat something sometimes..;-)

My Axe Ultra lasted 2 days after a single session and 2 profiles with this: I don't truly require 2 chains with 4 delays and whatever to get my thing going, and it does one thing no other unit had so far, which is to get that "urgency" to the attack that some amps have. I'm sure you'll be delighted with yours as well.
Happy new gear day!
Yes,attack thing is amazing with KPA :-).. -
Yep me too. I always thought loads of fx sounded good on modellers, not so great on real amps (unless you're going into U2 or pink floyd territory.), and so it is with the KPA. Profiles have such life to them too much fx can actually spoil it if you're not careful.
True ! For first time I enjoy playing guitar with no real amp (modeler) without any effects at all ! Did you check Tony Mckenzie's profile Divided By 13 !? I love it ! -
I did not know where to post this, so I put it in the KPA related discussion....
Here are my humble thoughts on the Kemper and maybe on digital sound engineering (as I would call everything from POD to AXEFX to Kemper):
The Kemper Profiler is a very cleverly designed piece of engineering. My understanding of the way it works (gathered from what I have read about it) is that it measures the even and odd harmonics produced by an slightly or heavily overdriven tube amp (or ss amp if you will). By means of elaborate test signals it analyzes the distortion behaviour of the amp profiled. This data is then somehow used to "emulate" the amps behaviour, so that you can tweak the harmonic content to some extent.
The Kemper always takes a pic of the whole signal chain: guitar, tube amp, speaker, mic, mic preamp.
So in fact I think it analyzes not only the harmonic distortion content of the amp, but also the frequency "profile" of the whole chain.
This it does very very good.
The Kemper is a tool like your guitar, fx, amp and cabinet. A very handy and mighty tool, but it is not IMHO more. Same for the AXEFX (I have only heard the AXEFX never played one) or any other modeler. Tools to be used to express yourself.
I can dial in a extremely nice sound and wail away at home, I can plug into the Kemper in the studio and get a fantastic sound very fast, I might be able to use it on stage (have not tested that) with a nice PA. But still it is a tool, nothing more.
I think there might be some misinterpretations concerning what the Kemper can do:
For example that you take a cabinet from one profile, or to be precise take a frequency analysis of a cabinet and a mic and a mic preamp and some room reflections, and apply this cabinet to another tube amp profile. But you always have to remember that almost every tube amp interacts with the speakers and cabinet. With the speaker by global negative feedback and the output transformer, with the cabinet that will react to the speaker soundwaves and even reflect that back to the amp.
I tested it myself by profiling two very different amps (Marshall style OD to Dumble style OD) using the exact same cabinet, exact same mic and mic position, exact same room, the cabinet nor the mic were moved. Yet when I "extract" the cabinet from one profile and apply it to the other it does sound very different? Why? Because both amps react differently to the speaker or vice versa.
I used to own an Eleven Rack. And in direct comparison, the Kemper is much more organic sounding, a huge leap ahead, better feel, better sound.
Yet real amps sound still different. In the real world, the amp and cabinet interact with the room, they interact with you and your preception of sound. A 100W Marshall Plexi blasting through a 4x12 at you will be different from a Kemper profile of the same amp blasting away at you through some linear high power monitor. Since the 4 speakers in a 4x12 react differently to the signal from the amp, there are numerous phase cancellations and a lot of stuff going on I can not even put in words. Then there is the psychology of having a real Marshall blasting at you.
So again it all boils down to the fact, that the Kemper is a tool, just like a real Marshall. The Kemper can do a whole lot more for you, FX, silent wailing, extreme control over sound etc. Which one is better?
You can not say which one is better, because they are different. You simply cannot use a 100W Marshall on 11 anymore (yeah, eat your heart out Spinal) during rehearsals. And a Marshall on 3 does not sound like a Marshall on the edge. So you can use a reactive load on the Marshall to bring the volume down, yet that will also sound different.
Then take an AXEFX. As said I never have played one myself, only heard it via YT. Nice sounds to be had, tweakers delight. For me that would not be the right tool, because I want to spend more time playing than tweaking (and I know of Scotts video in which he brilliantly showd how to set up a preset very fast). I personally need a different approach, I feel at home with the Kemper controls, the simplicity. Is the Kemper better than the AXEFX?
That is the wrong question. Like asking a carpenter if brand x hammer is better than the hammer from brand y. The carpenter will pick one out of a multitude of excellent tools, that fits his personality and needs the best.
We are all constantly trying to get a better sound, easier rig etc. That`s our human nature, this makes the world go round. What I find distracting is the waste of time spent on forum "wars" where it is discussed if the AXEFX or Kemper is the best thing invented since sliced bread.
To end this, I will give an analogy:
Hammond Tonewheel organs have been around and used since 1937. If you have ever sat behind the mighty B3, driving two Leslie 122 you know what an unearthly instrument this is (or listen to some early Santana with Gregg Rolie). Since this instrument weighs about 150kg and the Leslie approx. 60kg, people tried to "emulate" the sound. They tried hard and in the beginning (Korg) they came up with a tool that was nice, but very far away from the real deal. Nowadays you have plugins and everything, but still nothing sounds and FEELS like a real Hammond. But! Times have changed the musician/artist has to use something lighter, easier to carry around and this is where all the great digital engineering devices come in today and makes people play!
So for me the Kemper is a fantastic tool. Kudos to the inventors. Same goes to the AXEFX. Pick your tools.

Basicaly you are rirht..But I used to have Axe Fx and played 300 gigs with it on my Middle East tour..and it was very hard time for me cause IMHO Axe lacks something major in it's sound..Especially you can feel it on violin string (high position) ..you dont feel a full sound of real map..you can feel/hear thin string under your finger..With KPA you have 100% real tube amp sound everywhere on your fretboard..and to me it's huge deference..Kemper is miles ahead of Axe tonewise IMHO..
Cheers, -
Man am I with you guys! Sold my AxeFxII today to a Canadian & I'll never look back. My whole guitar playing creativity became a "stuck flow". Well now its flowing like a Tsunami wave!

I know what you mean :-)..The sound I've got now with Kamper KPA is just real and alive..Just feels completlely like real amp..Amazing :-)..Thanks Christoph for your hard work and creativity !!!

I've got my Splawn Nitro slowly getting ready to profiling (waiting for delivery after retubing) Hope to make some great profiles
Greetings -
I may be speaking too soon, but haven't had that problem yet, I'm using a Roland GFC-50 controller, I'm assuming you're using the latest firmware on the KPA? Strange that some units do it and others don't..or with only certain controllers, kind of scary if you need to use it live.
Yes it,s 1.04... Looks like DSP can't handle switching over presets.. It's not scary..It's useless in my case if it has to be like this.. X(..Maybe it's problem with my FCB1010..my switches are a little scratchy (old bustard) and while I press the buttons it sends midi command few times in schort time and it's to much for KPA's DSP..I will have to check other FCB1010 of my friend's today and will see...
It's fixed now .I had on all my patches on MFC1010 "Note Direct Select"activated and this was causing problems..I switched it off and since to single problem anymore
Did I say ,that this unit sounds ubelivable..After three days I'm still floored.. -
Hi Guys
I have similar problem with my FCB1010 Midi controller..I'm not able change presets ,cause after few changes I get strange noises from my KPA's autputs and after this it's silent..It says DSP ERROR !!! WTF ??? I was gonna use it live on stage..It doesn't look good...Help Please !!! -
I think one thing KPA will need to do is improve how the GAIN reacts and sounds, every profile i've tried(over 600) that u need to add gain, you can only add just a bit, then it starts to sound very unnatural to me, I thought it was just me, had a couple friends come over today and they all agreed it didn't sound natural at all, so i unless you start with the right amount of gain you're going to need, the end result isn't very good in my opinion, it works better if you profile with a bit more gain than you need, and reduce it later, again that's what I hear and my opinion, the Noise gate also could be improved somehow, it works but unless you get it perfect, it affects the attack in a bad way, maybe a few more parameters needed??
When profiling a sound that you're really happy with in the amp, then the raw sound of the KPA is excellent, very close, I think that's the KPA's strongest, and the way I'll use it, then just adding some effects etc. and it's very easy with all the knobs to edit, I own both the Axe II and KPA, for all sounds that need advanced programing the AXE II is the way to go, and now with the tone matching stuff, it will get very interesting..
Exactly..for me a noise gate should work a little bit better..just like my old Rockron's Pro Gap Ultra "Hush"...Also there is a little bit latency..to my ears maybe 5 ms..In some situations you can feel it..especially with sounds with strong attack and fast picking..but it's not a big deal..Sound and feel of this unit is unbelivable.. -
