I mean come on... a whole lot of people from around the globe noticed the same thing instantly when updated to 1.6.0. This can not be a coincidence. Or can it?

I'm a beta tester, and I have reported this same issue a long time ago. It is no secret anymore: the response then was basically the same as here. I still cannot believe it.
seems to be a lot having the same premonitons

May we ask CK what method did you use to reduce aliasing?
Of course I understand if it is non public... -
WOW, I most definitely did not expect this answer.
I need to schedule a hearing test...
Hmmm... -
A rack-mount kit would be more than 2space and note that it also has a logo. Why would a kit have an additional logo?
-
Two holes and a rack?
-
Or if this is connected to the aliasing removal, maybe find a better way to reduce it.

Yes, but "spectral content" is not that apparent in high gain tones. It might feel a little brighter or darker... no big deal. But for slightly dirty and clean sounds in my opinion is more important and noticeable. IMHO only of course. And most importantly it is always easier to remove something than to add it back.
-
I'm pretty puzzled by the divided opinions. Is it really not that obvious?
And the most important thing is that I feel my favorite clean profiles play differently. Less organic, chimey, ... insert all the magic words here. Not a simple EQ change. On recordings it is not that apparent. When you play, it seems more of a bigger change. -
Im just guessing, but most likely it is just an approximation of several internal KPA cab parameters + some reverb tail. You cant expect too much from it. But of course it is nice to have.

Yeah, the difference is not negligible. That special mojo, sparkle... whatever you want to call it is missing from the profiles. Especially bothering on cleaner tones.

Christoph Kemper wrote this in the problems & trobleshooting part of this forum some time ago:

I will improve the highpass filtering of the inputs.
It's just a guess, but maybe this is what we hear. Anyway I hope this issue will be solved very soon. In the meantime I'm rolling back to 1.5.4.

When some of us urged the fix of the aliasing problem, we really meant a simple increase of some kind of sampling freqs in order to get rid of the aliasing (at some point in the chain it is (was?) probably below 44 kHz). A simple fix like this probably would not change the tone dramatically. But it would consume more hardware resources... who knows, maybe it is not even possible that way. It is an unfortunate coincidence that the elimination of aliasing came with a tone change. This suggests that some other trick was used in order to get the aliasing-free result.

This is not due to changes to the factory presets. Also not due to changes to stomps etc...
The preset that I discovered this change with is my Cornell Romany Plus profile. It is on the exchange I think. Try it with a low output neck single coil pickup. It has a really great sparkly chime with 1.5 firmware. Now update to 1.6 and hear and also feel how it is different. Maybe I'm too sensitive, but it is not a subtle change for me. -
Just to be clear, the issue was discovered and noted in the private beta
phase by some users. I'm sure CK and team is on the case and we will see some updates / comments on this soon. Keep rockin' till then. (with the firmware of your choice) -
Yup, exactly my observations. When I first tried the new firmware I felt like the input filtering was altered somehow. I remember CK wrote about planning making changes to the input filtering somewhere on a public forum... I wonder if this has something to do with this issue.
-
Yeah, but I guess our main problem with this is that we wanted a fix for the aliasing by the means of a higher sampling rate. If the current fix is some kind of eq trick then it obviously messes up the original tone, which is not a good thing.
-
Yes, adding presence helps to get back to the vintage tone of the 1.5 firmware.
But as the root cause of this tone change is unknown, I would really like to hear some official explanation. -
Yeah the change is definitely there. If it sounds the same on all KPAs then the users not hearing it might have less sensitivity to such minor details. Or maybe not all the rigs are affected in a same way? Who knows... Or maybe we are not fully grown male individuals...
As the "official" statement is nothing has changed, and it should sound the same, this thing that some of us encounter might very well be a bug that needs to be corrected. /although I feel this has something to do with the reduction of aliasing/. Hmm?
The consistent sound quality is one of the main selling points of the unit. I think this change needs to be explained (and maybe corrected if possible) by the Kemper team.
