Thanks for sharing!
I have tried the crunch profile yesterday evening, and liked it!
I'll have to try it with louder volumes, but I thought it was sounding very good.
Do not worry about the low ratings. It looks like someone randomly giving low ratings... I've noticed this before. -
Added the beginning of a an Airbourne song. Check first post.

Haha, vocals are not me, it is from guitar hero
I have edited the topic to reflect that. Thanks! -
I've just recorded a Muse cover with the KPA:

Thanks for the info sirius, very interesting. I have to admit I have very little experience with real high-gain tube amplifiers. The artifacts audible in my samples felt so digitally compressed to me, that I presumed it is a defect of the KPA.
I have tried your suggestion, but I don't really hear a significant difference. Maybe my ears are tired for today
Your "Diezel Her CH3 SM57" profile is absolutely fantastic! Thanks for that also. -
Did some more testing:
It is 100% sure that it is not the pickups, and input settings. Well nothing is 100%, but ...I have also tried to reflash the firmware, and nothing changed.
I have disabled the "stack" section, and the dry signal (even with effects on) appears to be fine with no noticeable artifacts. So I guess this means the problem is somewhat related to the amp emulation part inside my KPA. Really strange.
Here is another sample (with my favourite Diezel high gain profile - thanks r.u.sirius where I let the high note ring a bit, then mute it with my fingers. Note the huge volume increase and the overall sound quality increase after the muting of the high note.

For the sound sample I have used a Suhr SSH+ humbucker. Yes, it has a high output, but the levels were not clipping, and the pickup is quite low in my guitar. Same thing happens when I split it.
I can get very similar results with another guitar equipped with Fender Fat 50 single coils. + lot of other guitar / pickup combinations.PS: still no response from support.

Wow, thanks for the help and sound samples.
Although your sample sounds better to me: It doesn't have that big volume difference and digitalness on the muted low notes. As I said I'm able to reproduce it with different pickups / guitars. Even with vintage single coils.r_u_sirius:
Thanks for checking! Do you also get the same type of digitally low volume effect? -
Nope, levels are all good.
I cant get the same problem either...maybe your input or master are set too high??

I'm in Hungary. I have ordered my unit from Thomann.
I think I'll wait the response of Kemper support, but it looks like my unit is faulty in some way (as nobody else can reproduce this).
I hope I will be able to arrange a replacement. -
Yup, noise gate is very bad (sorry, but I really think it is). It simply sucks tone when using lower gain profiles, but makes all kinds of artifacts and noises when using with high gain.
-
Thanks for the tip, unfortunately, it was not a solution. It's really strange that nobody else can reproduce this. Seems like a highly unlikely failure - it feels like it is a limitation of the current amp emulation.
PS: I do not use the noise gate. I have tried different guitars, cables, profiles, outputs... etc.: same result. -
Anybody can replicate this?
I have contacted support, but I guess they need some time to investigate.
I'm really curious what causes this. -
Hey, thanks for chiming in.
I get the same result with different guitars. All passive pickups, I do not use EMGs. I carefully set my levels, so I'm not clipping. Same behavior if I set "clean sens" to zero. I have this exact same thing happening on both the analog and digital outputs. I'm using 1.0.8. Now I'm a little worried, maybe I have a faulty unit?

Here is a sound sample of what I'm talking about. Is this normal?

Hey!
Today I have played a lot with the KPA, and sadly discovered what seems like a huge shortcoming of the unit. Try to select a high-gain profile. Play a very high note and let it ring. While it is ringing do some chugga-chugga muted low notes. It seems to me the high note completely chokes the low notes. The low notes only start to bloom after the high note dies off. This is not a subtle thing, it is very noticeable on my machine. Christoph?

Some of my favourites. Thank You!

huge +1 for a different noise gate

That was very nice! Great job all of you!
